What's the difference between a highway 1 guitar and a regular fender?

Please specify what a "regular fender" is.

A highway one is an MIA guitar that is a step down from an American Standard. It's a great choice.

1. Satin Nitrocellulose Lacquer Body Finish instead of poly
2. Greasebucket™ Tone Circuit, (Rolls Off Highs without Adding Bass)
3. 70's style headstock and more...

Click the SPECS button & compare...

Also, I have heard that Highway 1's are MiA but actually 'assembled in mexico.

The Highway One is pretty darn close to a 1971 Stratocaster!

The H/S/S Hwy 1 Strats sound like Gibsons. Its a shame the store in the next town sold the one they had, or else I'd ask (or beg) if I could get one for my birthday (with the help of paying for it...).

Ah well, my MiM sounds beautiful as it is, I should be glad I have a Fender at all. :D

a step down from the american standard?
thats a matter of opinion i find the highway ones
to be a step up from the american standards in tone/sustain.
the highway ones are not a step down the late 2006 & 2007's
are in my opinon are superior in tone and sustain over the american standards.

Highway One series of instruments are designed to appeal to those who really want an American Fender but are working on a budget.

In general the differences are:

Nitrocellulose Lacquer Finish which isn't as shiny and is more wear prone than the poly finishes. It's also less expensive to apply so it was used as a cost saving measure. On the plus side the old "tone god" instruments were nitro finished. As the guitar ages the nitro finish lets the wood breathe more and you (in theory) get better tonal qualities out of it.

The Greasebucket™ Tone Circuit, (it rolls Off highs without adding bass). This is just too darned cool and I think it sounds fabulous.

Vintage style hardware. Again it's less expensive so that they can keep costs down.

My Strats are a 2006 American Standard and an original 1974.
My Tele is a Highway One Texas Tele and it plays and sounds great.
In my opinion the Highway One Series offers the most "bang for the buck" in the Fender line.
