I was wondering about that roller nut for the Strats. Will your guitar stay in tune better and not go out of tune when using the trem cause of this rolller nut and how do you get the old nut off and where would you purchase the roller nut. Does it work and is it a Fender made item or is it made by some other company.

Roller nut stops the strings from binding at the nut.
A little graphite in the nut does much the same.

Well from what I read about applying the graphite. Is it the same thing as pencil lead or something? Someone said to put graphite on all you have to do is take the tip of a sharp regular pencil and just draw pencil lines in the nut slots? Am I correct?

Yes, apply very little too much can mess things up as well.

BTW, my current AM came stock with the roller nut and locking tuners, I've had no issues with going out of tune from the tremolo.

Had more tuning issues with the crazy humidity changes we've been having.

What brand makes the rolling nut and how do you install it or do you recommend a luthier to do the job? Did Fender make your rolling nut since it came with the guitar because I'd rather get the Fender brand than that other 3 letter brand. I forgot what the 3 letter brand is.

Fender uses LSR roller nuts. The early Plus Strats had Wilkinson nuts. I'd definitely have a luthier install the roller nut. A cheaper alternative might be a graphite nut. Anyways, even a roller nut and locking tuners will probably not be as effective as a locking tremolo.

Yes Toby is right the roller nut Fender installed is a LSR.
And the tuners are Schaller staggered locking tuners.

Replacing a nut is best left to a good guitar tech.

I have the roller nut because it came standard on the American Deluxe HSS guitar I liked, I do not think I would go out of my way to get one otherwise. The roller nut has little ball bearings under tiny metal tabs and you have to be careful when changing strings not to catch a tab and bend it or the bearings will fall out. If that happens and the tiny bearing disappears into a carpet you are SOL until you can get it to a repair shop.

Can anyone tell me where you would buy this LSR nut seperately since Fender already includes it on some of their models?

Use locking tuners and keep the string wrap to a minimum. Schaller makes some cool direct replacement units. I've got the "F" logo ones on my '06 and they work great.

Also, lube the saddles and non-roller string trees with grapahite.

What string wrap with locking tuners?
If you put the string on right you have maybe 3/4 to 1 turn of the string on the post.

In some cases locking tuners assist with string breakage when the tremolo is used hard.

Going out of tune is more likely the string getting caught at either the nut or on the saddle.
Or the bridge starting to float away if the springs are tired and start losing the battle.

Be warned. The neck slot for a Lsr nut needs to be wider than a standard fender nut slot.
Please consider the earvana compensated nut. Its made of a similar material to the Teflon/graphtech nuts and doesnt bind at all from what i can tell. It doesnt require slot widening either. Also once you go for perfect intonation you'll never go back to a normal nut.

Peterp that's what I was getting at. I've known guys who got locking tuners and wound them almost like regular tuners. I should have been more explicit in my directions.
