ive got a real love hate relationship with my vintage noiseless, love em when i'm playing well and loathe em when im playing poorly. They seem to pronounce every mistake or badly struck note. I've scn's on my hotrod, i like the sound of em but find vintage noiseless more responsive and that may be the key to their problems.

That's it, thanks Skelefish.

I was just about to post it. Hadn't see the file area you just displayed that this is from, but only one that showed the functions w/S-1 off. Awesome.

As long as I'm describing awesome, I just got this answer and the pdf file sent to me from Jeff Krause @ Fender's Consumer Relations Dept. Twenty five minutes after I wrote him.

I've written these fine folks a half a dozen times now, with questions regarding my Strat, Deluxe Reverb, Blues Jr. NOS and their Deluxe Hardshell Tweed Case (which I now also own).

Jeff's written back and answered my questions within a business day, usually the 'same' day, and today within a half an hour.

S.O.a B. I LOVE Fender!!!

Oh, by the way, if anyone's interested in a good Strat book, I picked this up for ~ $30, am half way through it, and it's outstanding. Awesome looking cover and binding as well. Forward is by Eric Clapton.

I can tell you that in an electrical circuit, the difference is a much less resistance to current flow/change in current flow in the case of resistance/impedence(the effect of a coil) when in parallel than when in series.

In series the total resistance/impedence of a circuit is simply cumulative.

In a paralell ckt you have to invert the total of the recipricles.

Two 4 ohm resistors/coils in series totals 8 ohms.

Two 4 ohm resistors/coils in parallel totals 1 / 1/4+1/4 = 1/ 1/2 = 2 ohms.

Kind of curious about the charts described combining of the pups. I'd assumed that on all Strats, or on these w/S-1 switched OFF, that positions 2 and 4 on the 5-way added the respective pups in series. This shows that they're in parallel.

It goes on to show when S-1 switched on that they're mostly combined in series.

The fact that when S-1 is engaged you have a discernable 'boost' in volume has me scratching my head a bit.

Would've thought in order to combine them for a stronger output signal, (S-1 ON), you'd end up going from a series connection to a parallel, not the other way around as the chart describes.

Hrmmm

That link for the American Deluxe has two drawings. Big difference in how the 3rd position is wired when S-1 engaged. Are you confident you posted the drawing that applies for the new ones?

The article I posted earlier describes a change made shortly after release in '04.

The drawing titles, and rev annotation at the bottom of the second one make it more confusing to me which one is applicable for most.

Seems like most people's opinions on these pickups are undecisive. All depending on what type of tone their after. Some like 'em & some don't really care for 'em at all.

That would be decisive, wouldn't it? It looks like each person has a definite opinion - but opinions seem evenly split.

Jeff Krause w/Fender just confirmed for me by e-mail that the drawing Skelefish posted above is the correct config.

One assume the first diagram. The second simply differentiataes series from parallel.

Thank's ZZ. I was referring to the two different drawings linked by Fhopkins near the top of the page. That link takes you to a list of pdf files. When you open the one for the American Deluxe Strat, there are two different sets of drawings. The difference is in what happens in position 3 on the 5-way w/S-1 engaged. Sure it is what it is, but there's a significant difference.
