HI everyone.....
I need to switch out a cracked pick guard. I have it and wondered a few things before I destroy anything in the process. What is the best way to get the volume and tone knobs off? My strat has S-1 circuitry with the push button on the volume knob. i wasn't sure if I needed to do anything special beacuse of that? Everyone tells me to use pliers to grab the knobs but I have to think that will destroy them. Any advice would be helpful. I'n taking a digital picture of the pickups position so I can get them back to the same position (height) they are in now. Thanks for any help you can be.

The vol & tone knobs should slip striaght off. straight up
But I am not sure on the S-1 knob.
Some people use a pick or 'try to' just to get it started.

Don't use pliers you'll most likely do damage to the knobs. I have a friend who just put a brand new Fender pickguard on his Strat. The way he pulled the knobs off safely was to get 2 knives and put one under each side of the knob and he slowly pryed it up and off it came.

I use spoons,,one under each side and gently pry up,,no damage this way cause of the rounded bottom of the spoons. I do S1 switch the same way.

Hey, thanks everyone who responded. I did gently pull off the tone knobs without any problems. I started the S-1 /Volume knob but it seemed as if only the outer rim was coming up and the part that you push down stayed behind so I stopped. I'll try again later. I just don't want to damage the S-1 switch.

Use a shoe string, slide it under the knob, wrap it around once, then pull both ends straight up, and pull on one side then the other.
