a strat is like THE mod guitar IMO. if people didnt mod their guitars, what good would signature models be?

If people didn't mod their strats...what would have Hendrix played??
(I imagine something had to be modded to convert a righty to play lefty). SRV is another example..I have seen him with strats using a lefty bridge in order to place the tremelo bar where Fender SHOULD have in the first place..lol

I think it's a great idea to mod, but only to correct specific problem areas. It's tempting to just throw money at your guitar in the hope that it will make you a better player, but playing is really what makes you better.

That's pretty much the idea behind modding a guitar. If a Strat was perfect right off the rack, there would'nt be any need for modding. Unfortunately it is'nt.
Plus, a very important thing to remember, no two people play alike. Even if they are playing the same thing, they feel and respond to the instrument in their hands in a unique way. That is what makes us all individuals.

Personally speaking, my 1980 "Strat" is the most comfortable to play, but even though it feels good and sounds even better, it still needed to be modded. The only issues I have with it are the tuning issues associated with a stock tremolo, which I solved with a set of Sperzel locking tuners, and the Fender LSR roller nut.. The other issue most annoying to every Strat player...the single coil hum. Copper foil tape behind the pickguard, and in the control and jack cavities helps that alot, along with a little creative wiring. I can still keep the stock pickups in it, and get the sounds I need, stay in tune, and look good doing it!
