Yes. One has a higher tension than the other.

There is a great website somewhere with a picture of weights hanging from trem springs - and for the second time on this topic I can't find it. Last time round Mr Bill helpfully supplied the link, and I then bookmarked it so as to be able to provide it in the future. But I am away from home on someone else's computer, so, no bookmark. Rats!

Mr Bill? He-e-e-lp, please?

The black are for 2-point and chrome is for vintage? Is that right? I thought I read that somewhere...

Yes, the chrome ones are like the originals and the black ones are the newer variety.

Was it worth the wait? (Or worth the weight...)

Thank you, Mr Jarrett, Sir.

And, yes, I believe the black ones come on the two point trems. My experience, anyway.

Cheers - C

Worth the weight? Well, it wasn't an exhaustive statistical sampling of multiple springs of each type from over the years, but it's nice anecdotal evidence of the differences.

Oh 'eck. I got taken to task by the Doctor for my lack of modern clinical methodology on the subject of tonal difference between maple and rosewood fingerboards.

Now we're at it again over springs. I may weep.

To make matters worse, I've had several Wilkinson/Gotoh VS100 bridges which also came with black springs, but presumably not the same ones as Fender's. And there's many unbranded aftermarket springs available, both chrome and black. Where do they all fit in?

Anyone who wants to know... can do the research themselves.

I'll see you in a few months - C
