Just thought I'd let you guys in on a little trick that I learned by messing around with my strat. You may have noticed that the vibrato bar gets annoying while not in use swinging around. A very simple fix for this is to measure the diameter of the screw hole and go to your local hardware store and pick up a small spring. Cut it to a length that will have a good amount of tension pushing up on the bar. Then just insert it, screw the whammy back on and your good to go. Try it.

A great idea, but I was under the assumption that Strats came with such a screw. At least both of mine did.

they do, and it ruins the thread of the hole faster than not using the spring. I'd rather have my trem loose, although whatever you do the thread strips anyway.
Does anyone make a aftermarket snap in adaptor?

That's not what the luthier told me! It's if you don't have the spring that when you screw in the bar that if the spring (isn't in the hole) that it won't be able to stop the bar from crossthreading and then stripping the thread.

The tech is correct but not having that spring isn't the only way to mess it up.
For example.
After putting it in & out over a few years it eventually might get cross threaded one time.
