Hi,

I would like to ask for advice:

which wiring diagram should I use to place Custom Shop 54 set in MIM?
Should I change capacitor / potentiometers?

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards,

Tomek

Did you look in the wiring diagram section of Support? If not, I would check there first.

use the stock ones, if the sound is too shrill lower em to 250k's. what if any came with the pickups. when i got my noiseless set i got the pots in the pack too. If you got some with the pickups use em, their of far better quality than standard mim's from what i remember.

To just swap the the pickups, just make a note of where they go and just switch them out. Pickup swaps are easy, just be careful and take your time.

Hi,

I'm sorry for delay (time change between USA and Europe results in the situation, that during a day in my country I can not post because forums are closed :) )

Thank you all for replies.

Hi Play3r - I looked into the section, but I didn't know which diagram will be the best for me.

Hi nikininja - as far as I know, my guitar has 250K potentiometers. The set that I bought is pre-owned and it will not come with additional parts. Do you think that changing potentiometers to new ones will improve the sound? Should capacitor be changed (mine is orange and it is probably 0.022 if I am not wrong)?

Hi elessar820 - I will go to friend of mine, who is much more experienced and did pickup swaps before.

Thank you all again

Best Regards,

Tomek

Yes, BE CAREFUL! The thing that can mess you up is to make sure your pickups are wired in the correct polarity. Some manufacturers swap the black and white wires around ... and many use different magnetic polarity (ie, which "pole" is UP). So it can be a bit harder than just soldering the new black lead to where the old black lead was soldered, etc.

old pots wont make much of a difference. It may be worth trying 500k pots. When i got mine they came with 1meg pots that were way too clear.

With vintage noiseless pickups the white wire of 2 of the pickups (neck and middle) go to the selector switch as does the yellow wire of the bridge pickup. All the black pickup wires are grounded to the top of the volume pot.
The neck and middle pickups are rated the same. The bridge pickup also has the same rating but there must be something different about it or why colour the possitive wire from it yellow.
the .22 should be ok too.
Like i said before vintage noiseless are very unforgiving pickups, the slightest mistake with your fretting makes a noise like a drumkit falling down the stairs. But when you get it right they sound superb.
I swapped the neck and bridge pickups round (neck pkup in bridge possition and bridge pkup in neck possition), it seemed to make em a bit better. Aside from that all i can reccomend is a equalizer pedal to boost the mids and cut the treble a little.

Thank you - that is a very important point (but I didn't think about it). Do you think that Custom Shop pickups may have different polarity / color of cables than those mounted in MIMs?

Thank you for advice. My new pickups will be Custom Shop 54 - do you think that 250K pots will be ok for them?

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards,

Tomek
