I was wondering if the U shaped necks that are on the 70's Strats the fattest radius or the fattest neck Strats and are any harder or more diffucult to play than le't say the C or V shaped neck?

There are very special type necks. U's are one of the fattest, as well as the unusual D-shape. The neck shape does not affect the FINGERBOARD radius. you can have a u shape neck with any fingerboard radius: 7", 9.5", 12", etc.

Hmmm . . . I've heard of the C, V, and U shaped necks but that's the first time I've ever heard of a D shaped.

I have a U shape neck on my Tele. And it's harder to play than a strat. I've adjusted to the neck, but.......if it's a contest between the Strat and the Tele.....the Strat wins for easy playing.

I have an Ovation with a V-neck. I've adjust to that neck as ell, but I don't like the feel of the V neck when I do barre chords.

Overall.......I love the C neck on my two strats. Those are the easiest to play.

my fave's the D shape, i initialy thought it was a U but was informed otherwise. The soft V on my hotrods a beaut and i can see how people prefer it, i'm just too used to the D. The extra at the back, kind of like a extended C realy makes the fretboard seem narrow although its not when you measure it.

Fattest neck on a Stratocaster

I prefer the v neck, it's easier to do bends and it just feels perfect in my hands. And I have no trouble with bar chords.

i have the impression that c shaped necks are the best of both worlds. But it's a matter of preference, like color choice.

Most outrageous neck ever on a Stratocaster was the first generation Jeff Beck which had an HSS configuration...all Lace Sensors...dual at the bridge...and a neck you could hit home runs with.

You can see him with that guitar on the cover of the April 1993 issue of Guitar Player and I have actually had that guitar in my hands around the same time. All I could think of was....."Zounds!"

Hey all!!! I had all three types of necks but I would tend to say (in my opinion) that the V shape neck, to me, is the fastest. It all comes does down to how you use your thumb on the bottom E string (kind like s.r.v). I hope this is to your satisfaction!!! take care!

If Bill has never seen this guitar he's in for a treat. A far cry from the new Beck Signature, or his Tele.

How are you today, Mike??
