I bought a new '08 American Fender Deluxe Stratrocaster yesterday. I have a '74 Gibson Les Paul Custom that I've played since 1974. I still love that Les Paul but wanted someting that sounded different. I went back & forth between a Gibson ES335 & the Strat. 've been an Eric Clapton fan for years but could never get his sound with the Les Paul. I picked up the my Strat around 7:00 PM last night and played it until 1:30 AM. It sounds great & plays nice. I chose the the American Deluxe over the American Standard Strat because of the S1 switch. The S1 switch comes close enough to me as far as humbucker sound goes so thats a real plus. Still getting used to the scale length difference but that wiill come with time. The noisless PUPS & locking tuners were a plus.

I considered an HSS but to me it just does not look like a traditional strat. I guess I'm too traditional, I got a 3 tone sunburst with a maple neck. Its beautiful. This Forum helped plus trying out different strats helped me out a lot in deciding which strat to get.

Anyway thanks for all of the info I got from this forum and I love my Strat.

Congrats! And welcome!

I picked up a Montego Black Deluxe just over a week ago...I also have an LP Traditional I picked up a couple months ago. Was just messing with the Strat for a bit (i am keeping it a low profile re:THE WIFE) and indeed it sounds really good - the tone is great, and it plays easy (the 9 strings?).

I also passed on the HSS 'cause I wanted the more "classic" Strat, and already had the LP; with the noiseless pups I do not miss the humbucker at all.

Cheers - and enjoy!

BTW, we need pics!!!
