Billy Corgan has proven himself over time as a significant musical force. Further, he has been dedicated to Strats and has over time worked with Fender to customize his git to his specs. What more does he need to qualify? Being a lead-guitar specialist shouldn't be a prerequisite.

Ummm...let's see.

1.He headed one the the most popular alternative rock bands of all time.

2. He can play like a motherf%$#er. Listen to Siamese Dream for proof.

I don't believe Fender gives someone a signature model for sucking! :o

I like the smashing pumpkins. They were definitely one of the bands that defined alternative music. Some his guitar playing sounds are really cool too.

Hmmmm, I can well see why Corgan deserves a sig. strat.
Not a huge fan of smashing pumkins, but I can see he has been a big influence on many guitarists over the last 15 years or so, and has recorded some truly amazing guitar parts.

Fender would be foolish to not make sig. models that would appeal the younger, hipper generation and not just cater for old rock dinosaurs such as the musically intolerable Jeff Beck.

(that said, I do think sig. models are a bit cheesy, talk about wearing your influences on your sleeve, eh?)

Billy Corgan is an accomplished gutarist, of that there is no doubt. I was going to get one of these, as I'm a huge fan, and love the SP sound. In the end, the dude in the guitar store talked me out of it. The Pink Floyd guys obviously rate him too, check out the Pulse dvd :D

(oops!! when I said Jeff Beck, I meant the above mentioned Van Halen! But you get the idea.....If I ever have to hear 'Jump' again, I will - off a cliff! Playing unmusical elaborate guitar solso very fast does not cosntitute musical genius)

Hey Fellow Stratheads-

I personally am not a fan of Smashing Pumkins...so for me the Billy C. Guitar is meaningless. However, I can except the fact that there are some out there who find his playing inspirational and thus want to honor that with a signature series guitar. I for one am saving up the money to purchase an SRV ... (It is also the best fitting strat I have ever played)-

If it inspires you to play...Get it and play your heart out.

The Freeze

ian? so much left to learn......anyway I am a gen Xer but was not much into the pumpkins but I have seen Corgan perform before and I was truely impressed. He was ,and still is, a much more accomplihed guitarist than Cobain was and Fender has gone as far as combine two differnent guitars to make his signature model.

I disagree. Its all about style. And Corgan has DEFINITELY changed the face of music, basically creating his own genre. In my opinion, thats the only reason Hendrix has such a high standing rep. In terms of actual ability, I don't think Hendrix is that great, he just has a great sound, style, and did a lot of new things no one had really done before. Corgan and Hendrix deserve their guitars.

I like Corgans sound, and I remember him saying in an interview somewhere he used certain Lace Sensor pickups, (back around the time of Melancholy&...), so whats with the DiMarzios?

Come on, Fender made one for Tom Delonge and so did Gibson. Gibson also made a sig model for Billie Joe Armstrong As guitarists, what have they really achieved? And you're here arguing about Corgan

thats right eddie van halan the man that changed the guitar world for ever over 30 years ago. the man who's the biggist guitar influence of alltime along side jimi hendrix. the man responsible for why we can play and approch the guitar the way we do. and the list goes on and on.
