Embrace the chip as mojo and don't worry about the tone. It won't affect it.

Welcome to the Forum.

What a terrible thing, the tone of your guitar will be forever changed. You need to get rid of it before something horrible happens to you. You must send it immediately to the first person that responded to your post.

I am of course just kidding. Your guitar now has character. Play it in good health!!!!

Just remember that a new vehicle will not look new forever, regardless of how well you take care of it. Look at how beat up some of Bob Dylan's guitars are.. same thing with Tom Petty and others. Embrace it. It won't affect your tone at all.

Your only recourse is to mail it to me. Email me for my address. To help you out, since this is traumatic.......I'll pay for postage.

Oh yeah........don't let anyone else ever play your guitars again. Only YOU care as much about your guitars.

The ones put in when it's your guitar are more special.
This is the way to make a true relic--not like those ones done artificially...

As long as it's not cracked--do not fret. (Okay--keep fretting the strings--but do not worry.)

It does affect the sound in that it is now more awesome than it was before and, therefore, must sound better. :D

1) Chips are no big deal. Cracks are a whole different matter, though, especially when associated with the neck or headstock.
2) Don't let that friend handle your guitar again.

It would take more than a chip to change the tone to a noticable level.
Maybe if u take out a chunk, like an aligator bite.

I always though strats look much better when they age. I would never want to have one for 10 yrs and have it look like it just came off the shelf, as if it was never played.

Mine has chips, mods, had the paint stripped and refinished in wood grain, a few cigarette burns by the tuners, some dents and dings, little rust on some screws, etc. That's what makes it look like a musician's guitar, not a collector's.

And even though it might look a little "loved and "used", it's 100% is perfect playing condition and intonation.

Don't worry so much about little chips and such. Don't abuse it on purpose, but don't "fret" over it either.

(bad pun, i know)

Look up some youtube vids of how relic bodies are made.

Funny (don't try this)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MU2CebfX ... re=related

Real
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0i-Yz4C ... re=related

Properly pre-aged bodies sound the same but look ancient.
Same for normal wear and ageing :)
