niki: Can't believe this is the first time you've seen his collection. The MB Blackie is the 'as built for guitar' I've written about. As far as that piece written about above as being overpriced. Alain has TWO!

His collection is not just limited to Fender as you've probably noticed.

Doc

Hi Doc

My two Crashocaster were part of the limited series of 50 different Strats painted by CRASH.
This one is different from that series in various ways.
It is delivered with an amp so it's not suitable for me as I live in a country with 220 AC.

Alain

how can you put a price on such beauty. That whole collection is like a Picasso or van gogh, i really think its attained the truly priceless valuation, in my estimation at least.
There is no 'price'.

The only time i've been in the presence of a collection like that was when i viewed the millionaire's collection i mentioned in another post. It wasn't anywhere near as tasteful though and just based on hank marvin, nowhere near the variety of Mr LaFrance's. Incidentally the marvin strat was very similar to the one in Alain's collection. A 92 i think, it couldn't of been 93 as i was only 20. The guy kept it in a glass case, it was the only guitar he wouldn't let me play.

a man can but dream eh?

I'll build you a step-up transformer and surge protect it if you let me have 5 minutes on one of the Blackies.

It's always been my impression that Alain collects these as interactive art objects. You'll find photo of him somewhere in that collection, made in l964. That places him age-wise, among my peers, and others like Mike, Chet, Syeklops etc , obviously of means, and with the disposable income to enjoy his hobby.

its not called rip-off britan for nothing. The romans may have invented taxation but we perfected it.
Heres the proof-
http://www.coda-music.com/

currently dreaming of the masterbuilt stealth towards the bottom of the page. for £3999 i'd want to sound like johnny winter, Clapton and segovia all at the same time.

Hummm....
I'm now 63 and I most probably won't buy this David Gilmour Strat as there is no way to get his sound just by having the "same" guitar when you see the diagram of his rig. I do have a Pensa Suhr with active EMG pups which makes it finely for my taste. An unlimited Edition furthermore; nothing detrimental to the guitar itselve anyway.
Cheers
Alain

....."there is no way to get his sound just by having the "same" guitar when you see the diagram of his rig."(quote)

Interesting observation. I've been 'singing that song' all through this forum nearly a year now. Had the pleasure of seeing a 'Floyd' tribute band some four-five weeks ago here on Long Island at Five Towns College, whose curriculum is performing arts, not unlike Berklee etc. The guitarist who covered most of David's play used an HSS Stratocaster and I could not begin to assess his signal chain even though I took a good look at it.
They did the entire 'Dark Side of The Moon', plus additional selections. All very true to the original an well performed. Excellent artists all.

There's great truth in your comment.

On your Pensa-Suhr. I get into Rudy's on 48th Street from time to time. I remember when he and John were still working together. Now they each have they're own line under their individual names. Rudy has a new amp show room around the corner from his location.

Have you ever been on this side of the pond and checked out that street?

I knew that street well over 50 years ago. The music venues were different then and "Manny's" was THE place. There was lots of faces pressed against glass in those days, and a $249 '58 Strat was a long, long, ways away from most of our hopes and dreams.

That block between 7th and 6th was major for all kinds of music and the rooms over the stores had studios and teachers. It was in that environment that I began to study piano at the age of 10.

By the way, I've got 3 years on you end of this past August which is why I really enjoyed that photo of you taken way back when. I have a few like that kicking around somewhere. Now just to find the time to get them together for posting.

Ah, but I digress. Just sitting here, biding my time, waiting for a tropical storm to blow through, and hoping that the rest of the season spares my newly renovated Florida home.

Doc

I'm counting the days, until I get the call to go pick mine up. I'm really looking forward to this guitar, doubt I will get the signed book though.
