you live and learn eh

Mate your a star thanks

You can reheat an old solder joint if you use resin solder flux (just a tad) when you do the reheat. The lead will always stay good. The resin flux sort of rejuvenates it.

You can get solder flux at any reputable electronic supply place. be very careful NOT to use acid flux.

What gauge is your strings, I know from testing the David gilmour strat set that they buzzed quite alot, but when i swiched to a 9-42 rotosound set that they buzzed less. though some buzzing you'll just have to live with, as the set settles and after a few days of playing it would have become better.

so first try a lighter set of strings, and strech them good when you change

This is a "brand new" guitar, just out of the box. I believe that they come with 9's stock.

It might be just me, but the bussing sounds loudest from the back cover area. Like from the tremelo springs or something.

If you take a two inch long strip of black electric inulation tape (1/2 - 3/4 inch wide) and apply it across the tremolo springs. also when you're there check for any fault in the ground wire. and something that is really cool is to have a plexi glass cover for the cavity, the springs look kinda cool even with tape over them.

I'll give it a try. Thanks for the advise.

"m not quite sure what it means but I figuired out that if I tune the low E string to E sharp the "buzz" seems to go away. So more tension on the string fixes the problem, but how do I get more tension and still have the string tuned properly?

Try this ....

When you are tuning the guitar, after you tune each string tug up on it firmly but not hard enough to break it. Then retune it. Do this a couple of times, and this will help the string stretch and settle. By tugging up, I mean, lift the string at a point about half way between the nut and the bridge, which tends to "stretch" the string. I sometimes also press down on the string between the nut and the machine gear, then do the stretch. This helps the string accustom itself to sliding in the nut groove. Be careful not to over do any of this.

Also ... be sure that the string is high enough so that when it vibrates, it does not touch the frets.

I do that every time I tune, and especially after replacing a set of strings with a new set.

If you try this, let us all know how it works for you.

Note that sometimes things that vibrate can cause a sympathetic resonance in some other part of the guitar or whatever the primary vibrating device is on any object. IF this is what is going on (Sympathetic Resonance) it can be a task tracking down just exactly what it is.

Exactly,

The first night I got my Strat I went to pull up to stretch my E string and I didn't think I was pulling it that hard and broke it!

The tape I mentioned will stop the trem springs from vibrating due to resonance, as said in the previous post. hope it works for you!
keep playing

I gave it a try and it didn't seem to make a differance. Thanks again.
