Hello all. Ive been seeing a lot of posts about Dave Murrays 57 Stratocaster that he played with for years and years. Just to say I made my own cheaper version. It came out to about 600 and let me say its my FAVORITE guitar i have ever owned and will not sell this one. Looks 100% like the real deal. I bought most of the parts new off of ebay and bought a licensed fender neck and than put some fender decals on it. Ill try to upload it soon. If you have any questions about it, write me. UP THE IRONS!

Sure, we are always interested in Project Strats. Give us a picture or two and tell us what parts you used. It may inspire others!

Iron Maiden whilst not being my favourite metal band have contributed some brilliant riffs and beautifull twin guitar melodies to the world of metal. Fender should grace mr Murray with a tribute guitar and run it for more than 3 odd years.

I agree with you there, would be nice if Fender could re-issue that guitar series or do MIM or MIA version. (Anybody monitoring this from Fender) It is fun to see how many people modify their Fenders after Dave Murray. You don't see too many factory issue HSH's and definetly not from Fender. I know I would go out and get one if the price was right.

I know Dave uses Dimarzio DS 100's in the bridge and neck. (saw that on wikipedia.com) I think the single coil middle p/u is stock from the 57 Fender. He also has a Floyd Rose Orginal floating tremelo. I don't remember seeing a locking nut on his; however, it's nice. I would start out with a black MIM HSS Fender Stratocaster with the Floyd Rose Tremelo already on it, change the Bridge and Neck p/u's to a Dimarzio DS 100's. I do not think Dave Murray uses the Middle pickup, however, you could try to find a '57 Fender single coil. Of course you would need a Fender HSH pickguard...(can you tell I've been thinking about this myself?) If I was wrong on any of this, please let me know. I've building this guitar in my mind for a long time and one day (soon I hope) I will start actually building it. :)

Yeah, Dave has said that he has "retired" that double humbuckered Strat.

I guess it's back at his Mother's house.

In a closet in his old bedroom?

Dave's current strat features a Floyd Rose, 3xSeymour Duncan hot rails and a pearloid scratch plate. His "57" (Kossoff) strat had the Dimarzio humbuckers, but still has the original vibrato unit, not a floyd. And, yes, according to the great man himself, the Kossoff Strat is at his mothers house for safe keeping.

He used a DS 103 in the neck. It's a 36th anniversary P.A.F. model that replaced the original Dimarzio P.A.F. Other than the 2 Humbuckers the guitar is completely stock. Including it uses a 3 way switch.

Yeah Dave uses the DP 103 PAF in the neck position and the DP 100 Super D for the bridge. I bought the body from BYOguitar.com and I bought a WD Lic. maple neck. Everything else is stock fender parts, including the pickguard. My strat...I mean Daves strat, is just amazing and I dont know why I would need another guitar. THIS THING IS SWEET. As soon as I get my camera to work ( I dont know how to work this thing) I'll put some sexy pics up ; )
UP THE IRONS!!!
