I can't quite draw up a comprehensive list off the cuff, but quite a few models have disappeared from the Products pages recently, haven't they? The Big Block Strat, the Showmaster (both from Special Editions), most or all HH Strats, the 70s Strat, the Stratosonic... Couple of years ago there were various recherche models, such as the Showmaster Elite and the Flat Head Showmaster, which have all gone from the catalogue.

It seems almost a done deal that the HWY-1 is on the way out, and I have heard a similar rumour regarding the Lite Ash Strats and Teles. Have some Sigs disappeared recently? Can't remember. (You'll probably want to correct me on some of that - or add to the list.)

It's like a big, slow clearout has quietly been going on. And where you clear a lot of stuff out you make space for - new stuff!

In other words, what I'm wondering is whether there are to be some big new product announcements coming along in the next few months...

I'm not trying to start a rumour or anything, honest...

Not an icecubes chance in hell Fender would discontinue the American Standard.

They did it once already.

Good point. It's like: the highway giveth, the highway taketh away!

(What's that from? It's close to an old Rick Derringer song.)

So there's something to look forward to!

It is from the Book of Job in the Bible, "God giveth and God taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord."

Quite. Which is why one of mine is a 2005 American Series. I think we all knew what they meant, though.

Yes, but it was still their plain jane, no name, middle of the road stratocaster. It was more of a name change then model change.

very good news for us who love the highway one strat.
i talked to a person by the name of scott at fender and i was
told that they are aware of the rumor that the highway one
is to be discontinued. its only a rumor. i was told that the highway one
rivals the new american standard in sales and in preffernce so why
would fender discontinue it. and hes right why would they.its good news
and its straight from fender corp.

I have an '05 American Series Strat, too.

Agreed, the new bridge was the only significant change IMO. Why go back to the old name? Won't that just cause confusion? Actually, I guess I don't feel that strongly about it.

All the typing we've done (above) on the loss of the Classic Series '70s Strat: I was just taking a stroll through the products pages - and it seems to be back!

Now am I remembering rightly? Is it showing in some different colors than a few weeks ago? I wonder if anything else has changed about it - is this an "upgrade"?

I guess when we were all so worried at its absence it was just out getting its photo taken afresh...

Cheers - C

I wish. I've been gently suggesting a reissue of the '80s Fender Performer (preferably with a nicer headstock - just a Tele one, why not?) on and off for ages. No sign of that one coming along. Oh dear, another project with the router...

Noticed you were away for a week or so at the time of Gustav, F. Did you have to evacuate? Is everyone safe and sound? Terrible damage, or survived in tact? Good to see you back, anyway.

Cheers - C

AS you can see we survived but it was tough! No electricity for 6 days until I finally stood in line for 4 hours in the rain to buy a generator . Ate all our food out of ice chest and cans, but we were fortunate compared to others. Thanks for the thought, we're fine! I did get to eat my first MRE, if you know what that is. :)

No  It's a military meal that was given out to people with no way to cook. MRE stands for Meals Ready To Eat. They last for years and all you have to do is add a small amount of water and it produces a hot meal. The National Guard was handing them out along with ice, water, and tarps to cover torn off roofs or shelter!

Yes the Classic 70's Strat has just reappeared back on the site once again only before it was shown in Natural Ash and now it's showing in Black color.
