Welcome aboard. Best advice I can give you is go to the music store/s and check out as many as you can and make your decision from that.

Welcome Mark,I would have thought that you had a weakness for Pensa Suhr Strats.

Lots of flip answers here. Seriously though, it's an impossible question to answer. There are literally hundreds of different configurations and combinations out there. Other than the dirt cheap ones and the toy guitars, there are no really bad choices depending on what you want to do with it.

One mistake I see a lot is the attitude of "I am not sure if I'll like guitar so I'm going to buy as cheap as I can get". Unfortunately, most dirt cheap guitars are unplayable and have turned off more new players than they have helped.

If you like the strat tone, I'd say go for a Standard MIM strat. You just cannot go wrong with one of those. Mid priced and the ones I've played are high quality. In fact, I like the way my MIM feels over the MIA one I have.

With a Strat, there are hundreds of mods you can do as you decide what you want.

Now, if you've been playing for a while and know what tone you want or what styles of music you're going to be playing, go to the music stores and play as many as you can and make the decision from there.

If you are talking acoustics, I would be much better qualified to make recommendations although my taste runs to the higher end guitars and I'm a big fan of Martin Dreads (D-XX) guitars as I play a lot of bluegrass and old time stuff.

I know this is a Fender forum but if you're looking for a big fat sound and play a lot of high gain distortion stuff, I like LP style guitars (I've owned more of them than Strats) and there are some really nice Epiphone LP's out there for a lot less coin than a Gibby LP.

not the "go buy this one" you asked but like I said at the start, there is no right answer to this question.

Jeff
