Whats the difference besides the pups and the nitro finish? Is it cheaper? Does it sound better than the Am. Std. most of the time? I'm really curious.

(On the other hand...does anybody own a Big Block Strat? I have yet to see a real one...)

Well, the Amr. Standard is better all around, but on colors, I think that the flat finish is pretty cool.

We actually had a guy quit the forum because of a Highway One vs. Am. Standard argument. The Highway One is a nice guitar for the money, no doubt. I just don't see how you can compare an American Standard with it. I mean come on....if the Highway One was every bit the equal of the American Standard, who'd buy the Std.? Just the feel alone is superior.

No, he just seemed to hate that anyone would disagree with him. He felt the Highway One, he owned a few of em, was the best strat period. Everyone else was an idiot for buying anything more expensive.

Oh..ok. Well I told that i love my highway 1, but i wasn't saying that it is better than the am. std. for some reason std. is more expensive, however a like pretty much the hg. 1
They are both very good guitars

I have a Highway 1 and it is a very good American made guitar for the money.
An American Standard would be a step up from the Highway 1.

Yup, I've played the highways and thought they were nice guitars. But there are better ones too. If my budget were more limited I'd have a Highway for sure.

I don't remember his handle. And...if you think the highway is better that's cool too. Tone is in the ear of the beholder.

I've got a Hwy1 and like it a lot. However, I'm looking to upgrade. I just tried an American Deluxe and man, those SCN pups are clean and pure. I wasn't digging the feel of the guitar. I think the strings were springy. It could have been the strings or the set up, or maybe it was going from Jumbos frets down to med-jumbos....but I've played better feeling guitars. I only had time to play one. All that being said, my question is if the American Standard would be enough of a step up from the Hwy1 or if I should spend the extra money and get the Deluxe. Given the price difference, I could buy the Deluxe and upgrade the pups and not hit the price of a deluxe. S1 was nice but it would not be a deciding factor in this purchase.

Any thoughts?

Look at the specs here on the Fender site and you will see what is diffrent about them. They are both nice guitars but they are different from each other.

Reading specs? Isn't that like using directions? Just kidding. I'm really asking for a player's opinion since I didn't get to play both. I want to minimize my search as I don't have a lot of time. I realize it's all subjective, but this forum tends to be free with opinions. (Which is a good thing).
