So I'm standing at the counter and I told Mike the real reason I came in today, and he just snickered and tossed a couple of strings in the case. Now you won't feel so bad, you actually did get what you came for!!!.

Yep, I got my strings for under $1,000 and got a free guitar to boot. I'm pretty slick huh?

Strings are getting pretty expensive these days!!!

   HaHaHa

That used to happen to me when Fender had some dealers close by.

Now I don't have to worry so much about that since Fender pulled all it's dealerships in this area. The dealers said it had something to do with them trying to be like gibson and have a huge minimum order, plus some other junk. And the number of dealers seems to get fewer as time goes on.

Oh well .... that's good for me. Saves me money. I buy fewer guitars and amps that way. No more picking one up ... just to try it out, you know  - and then winding up buying it because you can't put it down.

Now days, I look at Fenders site when I get the itch for something new. (instead of the "impulse" buying) If I see anything that interests me - I look around at the Internet sites for a price. Usually it's too high for me and I don't order, So that ends that. :)

But the other day we went to a neighboring city, to take my wife out for her birthday to a restaurant and some other things to make the day special. (it was what she wanted)

There happened to be a nice music store close by (NOT a Guitar Center - This was a nice store) that still carries Fender stuff, so I stopped by just to see if they had an American Deluxe Ash Strat that I've been interested in.

Well ... he didn't have the deluxe in the ash body or in the color I wanted. So I felt safe in trying it out the one he did have. Plus, it was a black one that was left over from 2007. I don't like black guitars - and apparently others don't either since it's still there.

He got it down for me and plugged it into a new Princeton Reverb amp and handed to me.

Remember - I DON'T LIKE BLACK GUITARS - I kept telling myself! (after about 30 minutes)

It was very hard to hand that guitar back and not take both home with me!

If it had been the ash body in cherry burst - I would now have the guitar - and maybe that amp too. As it was - it was VERY hard to put it down and walk away.

We didn't even discus price. I was afraid that if we did - and he offered a good discount - I would have been hooked.

I was lucky! I barely managed to slip loose from the hook!

You gotta be careful in those music stores!

Damn it, I'm getting ready to go to Colorado for a month, and wanted to pick up a couple of sets of strings just in case. Well instead of going to my local GC, I decided I would go out to Bizarre Guitar (Phoenix, AZ). Big mistake...So I'm walking around saying hello to the guys and was poking around the Fender section, so I say to Mike (the Manager), "hey are these new Strats as good as they say?" Mike says no, they are better. Hmmm, now my curiosity is peaked. So I said, how about letting me check one out. So naturally he pulls the color combination I have been thinking about and says here you go.

Damn this thing plays wonderfully and sounds awesome!!! OK OK, all I want is a set of strings. So Mike says, oh yea, this one came in last night, and except for the set up, no one else has touched her. And he'll knock some off of their sticker price (which is already $300 less than GC or MF).

I kept telling myself, all you want are strings, all you want are strings. F*ck it, I gave in to the forces and took her home.

So I'm standing at the counter and I told Mike the real reason I came in today, and he just snickered and tossed a couple of strings in the case. Now you won't feel so bad, you actually did get what you came for!!!.

So enough of this, let me introduce you to Blondie. She is a 2008 American Stratocaster.

You did the right thing my friend. G.A.S. is a tough thing to walk around and fight with. I'd bet you don't even miss the coins today and you have relief. Good story, but I'm sure it happens to someone everyday!! :) 8)
