I have a 1994 Fender Strat squier series.

Is this a Squier?
Some other information would be nice also. IMHO the guitar has a better feel and better build quality than the new MIM strats.

I tried searching "squire series" but it produced a lot of hits.. but none answered my question.

I asked this question before and it was stated to me that It wasn't a squier but a MIM Standard strat... however somebody informed me today that it is truly a squier.

There's a lot of info on SQUIER guitars here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier

I don't know if it answers your question. If not, try the Squier forum to address the Squier experts directly.

From an Ebay buying guide:

Now here is a picture (below) of the 'Squier Series' headstock. This one happens to have the 'Squier Series' decal but also notice how the entire 'Fender' decal is a solid dark color and there is no outline around the logo. As far as I know, these are the only Stratocasters with the solid dark logo and no outline. However, with the enormous varieties over the years and the sharing of parts between factories I suppose it is possible to find an exception. But chances are extremely good that if you see this type of Fender logo , it's one of those with the 'different' tuners and bridge.

I am convinced many sellers don't even know this themselves as they probably bought the guitar used with the decal already removed. Or let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say, maybe there were some without the decal....maybe they ran out or something! However, all you have to do is compare it to a real Mexican Standard and you will notice the different bridge and tuning machines. The 'Squier Series' decal Strats are certainly not bad guitars and would probably fall between a genuine Mexican Standard and a Squier Standard. These should not command quite the same price as the genuine Mexican Standard though due to the cheaper hardware, but when new I don't think there was a very large price difference. Look for good ones under $200, but if you're patient you can sometimes grab these for between $125-$150. For that price these are a nice bargain but remember, you can often get a real Mexican Standard for $225. (NOTE: There were some 'Squier Series' decal Strats made in Korea in the '90's also but there is virtually no information about them. They do not have the solid dark 'Fender' logo but do have the 'Squier Series' decal. They say 'Made in Korea' on the front of the headstock. These are not the same quality as the Mexican made 'Squier Series' guitars due to lower quality bodies and necks!)

Thank you for the responses...

the Wikipedia really doesn't give a definite answer. I totally disagree with the ebay guide about the build quality. I own a MIM Standard Strat and this "Squier Series" and the build quality is better. But I do agree with the "Squier Series" being sanded off. I've seen that and they actually have one on ebay now.

Apparently they used cheaper hardware then the MIM standard. That doesn't mean there weren't some good ones out of the bunch. A good guitar is one you like to play, no matter how much it costs. If you like yours, then it's a good guitar.

built better than the 2006 to present MIM strats?
very unlikley. the craftmanship of the 2006 to present MIM
standards and others have been compared to the craftmanship
of most MIA strats. i have not read anything that that says the
squires are better than MIM'S i have mentioned above.

Yes I own a 2007 MIM Standard Strat and I don't think it built to the same quality as this 1995 Squier series.. I like the stock PUP in the 95.. change out the PUPs in the 2007...

I agree with a good guitar is a guitar that feels and plays great for you.

certainly a good guitar. mines got a good 600 gigs under its belt and never been a problem. Its definatley a squire despite the fender logo, it could of been a parts swap thing when the factories were combined. The stock pickups are very powerfull whilst retaining a good balance and clarity. I remember putting a dimarzio fs2 in mine years ago and being horrified that cheapo singlecoils had more output than a £60 humbucker. The hardware on the guitar is of lesser quality than the mim's of today. Most notably the tuners and trem, although i seem to remember the original pots only lasted 3 months.
As the saying goes 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'. Well despite owning a vintage hotrod, A jackson DK2 and js30, and a charvel cx291, all much more expensive than my humble squire series, The squire series gets more play. It will last longer too, ive never had a guitar last beyond 6 years until this one that i bought in 95, i think its a keeper.

Man you should of kept the original paint. That's my favorite color.. My strat and my Tele is that color.. Either way that's a good looking guitar.

I got bored with it after 13 years mate. Did you have any neck/string allignment problems wit yours. A mate of mine has a telecaster squire series that has the high E running close to the edge of the fretboard as did mine.
