I just bought a used Mexican strat and I can't get the tremelo bar in properly. My questions - is there more than one style of bar? Just because there is a hole, does that mean there should be a bar? I notice some models don't have them?

Any help is appreciated - I'm new to this.

Sometimes the bridge plate and the trem block can be slightly misaligned, which makes it hard or impossible to screw the trem arm in.

If it's new, I'd take it back to the store and get them to fix it.

I believe the American and Mexican tremolo bars are different. If there is a hole there should be a bar to go in it. Sometimes mine takes me awhile to line up to screw it in. There should also be a little spring in the hole to steady the bar

Yeah, and you NEVER want to force it in. You can easily strip it.

Welcome to the Forum.

The bar goes in at a slight angle.

My trem bar stripped itself without me even overtightening it back when I bought my 70s Strat back in the 70s. Now I have the Natural reissue 70's Strat, didn't have any problem the trem bar easily screwed right in. Make sure you don't lose that spring that's inside the hole though, that keeps it from crossthreading and if that spring's not in there, you have a very good chance of stripping it. You may even strip it from constantly screwing it out and screwing back in every time to take it out or put it away, but according to the guy I was talking to at Fender, he says he doesn't see any problem if you leave the bar in all the time, just as long as you can get the case closed.
