Welcome to the Forum.

I think if you do a search there are a couple of threads on this particular subject.

Don't know anything about the VG Strat, but the idea of what it does sounds interesting. The cost of it, and how well I play......I can't justify buying one, in my own mind. And I've never been around one.

But.....I do like the idea, and what it does. I wonder if it could replace several effect pedals.

hmmmm
i find it a poser of a question. does the modeling affect the tone of the pickups.
I'd like to A/B one against a standard (after all the standard is the standard)

I answered this question in another thread  http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11780

When you play the VGStrat - you play it one of two majors modes - Normal, ie, just an American Standard Strat with 3 American Standard Series pickups, or you play it using a Modeled Guitar. In this mode, only the Roland pickup is used, and all sound is a "modeled" sound via the synth built into the VGStrat. The 3 Standard pickups aren't used at all in this mode.

I play mine alot since I won her. My other guitars are getting lonely in their cases. I mostly use it unplugged - and just practice chords, scales, and songs, and just note picking. It sounds great as an unplugged Strat. When I plug her in, I play her more as a standard strat then with the Modeled ones. Not that it sounds bad modeling guitars, I just like the way the Strat sounds.

I'm still working my way thru all of the Models - the humbucker one sounds very nice - has a good strong tone.

Since I'm a re-beginner with guitars, a pure beginner with electric guitars, I'm still experimenting a lot with how the pickups and tone controls work together - very different than my plain old acoustic.

Hope this helps somewhat,
