I've put this in the accessories forum aswell as here - I apologise if a pickguard topic does not fit under the strat forum, but I need to get it out there, as I have exhausted all my other options!

Hello - I apologise for my first post being nothing more than a petty cry for help, but I've literally been through the whole internet searching for the right tortoise style. Fender have had it. Just not anymore.

Does anyone have ANY info on it?
Who makes it?
When did they change to their newer brown (And might I add hideous) tortoise?
Where can I get something similar?
I've tried Fender Consumer Relations, which yielded nothing but a sales rep dodging my questions and adding nothing of value.

I've tried Warmoth, Pickguardian, Guitarfetish, Chandler guitars, terrapinguitars, and most other custom guard makers. No luck.
Furthermore, I've tried as many shops as I could, that sell genuine Fender guards to no avail either.

Well, well: just the sort of juicy quest we like on the Forum.

First I went to WD Music in the UK, because I find their website a little prettier to look at than the US version. Annoyingly, their pickguard pictures are so tiny you can't really be sure what you are seeing. Here's their tortoiseshell:

http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/STRAT% ... ELL_ST-205

Hmm. So then I looked at WD in the US - and discovered they are using the same tiny pictures on slightly less sightly pages:

http://www.wdmusic.com/fender_strat_reg ... 0_prd1.htm

Well, that could be the one you want... I deal a bit with WD UK and find Ben very friendly and keen to help, so hopefully it is the same in America. You need to get into conversation with them, send them your photo and ask them if theirs is the same. I expect they'd let you return it if it ain't right.

But then just for kicks I visited a strange little website we have here in the UK, Axesrus (www.axesrus.com). Now this site is very homespun and it is clearly a kitchen-table operation: but I have bought from them many times, had good service and got hold of sometimes hard to find items at sensible prices. So they are kosher, so far as it goes.

Take a look nearly halfway down this page, at an item, "three ply USA & Mex pickguard in black gloss and tortoise" for £12.50:

http://www.axesrus.com/axeplates.htm

Do you think that looks like the one you are after? If so, then at least you know it exists, though I presume you are several thousands of miles from it at this moment. No doubt, it will travel to meet you, if you want to pay its airfare...

Cheers - C

Check www.pickguards.com which by the way is WD Music Products owned.

If the problem the OP is having is getting the "right" coloring of the tortoiseshell pickguard, then "mail ordering" one may not satisfy him. The color shown on the website or in the catalog may not match the one sent to him, and then he would not be happy.

However, if you go to your local guitar shop and ask the good folks there to get you one, you will have the opportunity to check it out before you lay your hard-earned cash down. Maybe go to two or three local guitar shops to see what's on offer. Tell them your problem. They will help because they want to make a sale.

Try checking out your local Fender dealership. They usually have one of those in stock. :D
