My HWY 1 is still stock component-wise, and I think I will keep it that way. I did hand roll the edges of the fret board for added comfort.

I am looking to pick up a MIM to go crazy on. Shoot! Maybe I'll get two.

Hey StratHeads-

My 2000 MIM is still stock after all these years (strings don't count as a Mod in my book)

I am planning on replacing the Bridge saddles to Graph Techs and maybe replace the Nut to better accommodate heavy strings.

I see the point others have in keeping their guitar all stock. I've just come to the conclusion that my baby needs a few little mods to make her play better.

I think I have too much of an "Ebay" mindset these days - where, even if I have NO intention of ever selling something, I want to keep it stock and with all the boxes, case candy etc. "just in case".

I can understand how someone might be like that, but I never buy any guitar with the thought that I'll just have it for a while, keep it pristine then sell it. Any guitar I buy is something I've thoroughly checked out and want to keep pretty much forever, otherwise I wouldn't spend money on it in the first place.

And if you're so careful with it "just in case", the I don't think you're fully enjoying the guitar. It's like buying a cool couch set for your den, but keeping the plastic on it "just in case". What's the point, really?

I put a hot rails seymour duncan in my brigde position.. I got really familiar with taking it all apart and putting it back together figureing out if I had it wired right or not.. but after about a month of playing with the hot rails I felt like I had taken alot away from the original "mood" of the guitar so I put the original pickup back in.. it's just as hot as the hot rail by the way..

all stock. I shop around for the right sound and feel. I have tinkered and ended up with a bucket full of parts. :D Once in a while some guitar gets locking strap locks if they are for playing outside my house.

If I think I'm going to need to mod it, I don't buy it. Then again, I'd mod a $300 axe to have as a beater. If I'm spending a grand or more on a guitar it's going to be right from the start, not something I can "fix".

I would never buy a guitar to mod it. If you don't like the sound of it - don't buy it!

Although I am thinking about switching the tuners on my MiM to something a little more...sturdy...

I have two stats.....a MIM and an American Deluxe.

Both are stock.

With the American Deluxe.....it came with all kinds of custom parts that I wanted. So I just keep it like it is. I prefer to get a guitar that matches the things that I would like in a guitar, rather than upgrade it.

I have a '72 Thinline Tele.......when I bought that guitar, I wanted the hollow body sound......as well as the humbuckers. So it was ready to go, once I took it home.

Pickups: approximately 85% of my guitars are stock

Tuners: 95% are stock

so mostly stock

Virtually all of my guitars are stock. I made some minor changes to my '86 MIJ Strat but nothing that affected the sound.

I have a Highway 1 Strat that I bought used. It's the original model before the Greasebucket tone circuit was added. There is no 60cyc hum at 2 and 4 so a previous owner must have changed out the p/u's and put a reverse wound pickup in the middle. I guess I've got nicer guitars but this is the one I play the most.
