How many like there Strat just the way it is and didn't do any mods and just kept it stock? No swapping out pickups or any mods, just like it the way that it is?

I think I have done something to every single one of the guitars I have ever owned just to make it mine.

I don't think I have any "stock" guitar either, but that's just me. It's not necessarily because something wasn't "good enough" or for any real reason, just a personal thing.

I just played a couple new 08 strats. While I love strats in general, and these are great too, this year isn't my favorite. I'm not a fan of high gloss headstocks, and certainly not high gloss fingerboards. I liked the satin finishes on the 90's strats, but that's a personal thing and doesn't necessarily mean one way is better for every single person, than the other way.

Even though I'm partial to rosewood fingerboards, that high gloss finish on the headstock would bug me, and feeling that on the back of the neck makes my hand feel like it's being held back and I don't like that feeling.

But, if I lost all my guitars, and had to get a new strat to play everything with, there would be absolutely no problem doing it all with a new 08, completely stock, unmodified american strat though. It's a great guitar, it's just that over the years you pick up little things you prefer, just in the small details, but those little things make it more personal for you.[/list]

My Classic 50's will stay stock, I love it just the way it is. But lately I've been wanting more traditional sounding pups for my MIM Standard, time will tell.

I haven't changed anything on mine except the strings. Doesn't mean I won't down the road, but for now I'm happy with it the way it is.

Mine is still a baby, got the original strings on still. Everything will remain stock until otherwise I feel something could be changed to make it better.

Mine stayed stock for a couple of years. Does that count?

Of the several Strats I own, I have some that are stock, and some are modded. One mod I do to all my guitars is install Dunlop straplocks.
I have a 2001 3 tone sunburst that I have kept bone stock. It has the classic sounds. I have a 1990 USA HM Strat that has an EMG-81 and 2 EMG-SA pickups with a PA2 booster preamp. The preamp switch replaces the stock coil tap. This guitar is the ultimate hard rock machine now.
If you have more than one guitar to play with, it is nice to set up specific guitars for specific purposes. I find that when I do demos, and studio work, it is nice to have access to a wide range of sounds, without having to compromise an idea.
The MIM Stratocasters are great project guitars, and the value does not decrease with midifications. Vintage guitars lose too much value on the market if not kept stock. The Strat is like the Chevy 350 V-8 of the guitar world. Hot Rod away!!!!

My latest strat the Am dlx is still stock after a year of owning it, except I put on heavier strings.

But, I'm starting to get the itch, thinking maybe start out small and just add a spring or two.

That's a question I've been thinking about of late. I've never changed anything on my 1986 Strat. It's s# starts with E and it has a kahler tremolo that is marked kahler usa. I've never compared it to any other Strat to see how it matches up. It plays really nice and the sound seems fine. I'd just like to hear a couple others and see how it dose.

I never really thought of this a mod, but in that case all of my guitars are modded with Schaller straplocks.

I have done some setup and added springs to the tremolo, but that's all. I keep thinking that maybe I would like to change things, but then I play it and I'm really happy with the way it sounds and feels.

I think I have too much of an "Ebay" mindset these days - where, even if I have NO intention of ever selling something, I want to keep it stock and with all the boxes, case candy etc. "just in case".

On the other hand, I do like tinkering - then something (usually guns) I worked on and hopefully improved for me is truly MINE; luckily with my new guitars even just changing the strings tends to give me that feeling.

I am also a REAL noob, so I wouldn't know any better if something needed changing - so, so far the few I own are stock, and will be that way for a while.

The only thing I'v ever changed on my Strat is the action, and thats only because of the fret buzzing. And I'm not sure if this counts, but I always used to have .9's and now I have heavy strings.
