Thanks! I found all the specs I was looking for. Not a bad price for the guitar either. Also like Cryingstrat I think it needs a maple neck option.

Where is this guitar being built? With a $999 MSRP I can't imagine it to be an American made Signature model.

I wondered that too when I read about the Polyester finish. I thought they only used that in Mexico.

Why isn't there a signature on the headstock? I suppose it could be on the back, but maybe it isn't a real "Signature" model.

On Mayer's signature series, the sig is on the back of the headstock.

It would be unlikely to have a maple neck option if the artist's stage guitar does not, or the if the design specified as by the artist would not call for it.
Same with the SRV, JM.

I would love a '57 V-neck on the Gilmore but that dog ain't gonna run either.

Doc

$999 MSRP, that means it'll retail for around $600. It's gotta be a MIM model.

To get a signature Strat should'nt being an icon have something to do with it?I knew we were all in trouble when I saw the Corgan Strat.Yeah,he's certainly known as a Fender icon.Just my 2 cents, but to give one to KWS,Corgan,Mayer,I mean come on.

It's more about how rabid the artists fan base is and how many units it's believed they'll move. I never think of Corgan or KWS when I think of Fender, but millions do. Enough so that they'll spend a grand to have a piece of their favorite artist. We'll never have agreement here on who should have a model and who shouldn't. In the end the decision is a marketing decision.

Mostly, I think of Jimi Hendrix, when I think of Fender Stratocaster.

Maybe there will be an official Hendrix model again. Some time. Maybe.

Unfortunately, the Hendrix family protects his name as if it were the Shroud of Turin. Using his name costs the big bucks.....then add a few zero's.

Yes. I'm sure they want a cut that's a little too big in Fender's eyes.

Hendrix's brother leon and alf sister are doing a lot of negative stuff in the name of Jimi. I read somewhere that Will Smith was begging to play him in a life story film, that has been shelved because leon and sis when they won the estate withdrew the right to use any of hendrix's songs. They hid behind the 'not enough money in royalties' arguament, i think it was more down to the fact that any life story would of portrayed Jimi's dad in a bad light.
Dont know how will smith would of done in the role, he didnt do too bad as Ali.

Now we have to take care, because many of these people can afford much shinier libel lawyers than we can. But to say the very least, some of the decisions of the Hendrix estate are curious. I haven't the slightest doubt that Niki is right regarding the blocking of movies of Jimi's life story.

And things get very complicated behind the scenes when guardians of estates regard themselves as Keepers of the Flame. My wife is an author's agent in the publishing world, and was approached to become the representative of a very famous writer's estate. Actually, the estate came to her via a movie producer who wanted to film one of the novels and was having a hard time dealing with the estate.

Turned out the guy in charge had very specific ideas about how a movie ought to be made. My wife asked who he saw directing such a film. David Lean, was his idea. Lean of course is sadly deceased - who else? Merchant-Ivory. Same problem: could the gentleman think of anyone who is actually still in the world of the living? Er - no.

My wife declined that prestigious appointment on the basis it would make a misery of the rest of her life.

And a delicious example of where it all goes wrong for an estate. I saw a list of who had made what out of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, just prior to the release of the third movie. So far at that point the director, Peter Jackson, had made £65 million. The production company had made huge amounts. This and that actor had taken million pound bonuses on top of salary. The first two movies had netted over a billion pounds - $2 billion.

And the Tolkien estate had made... something over £100,000. Oops. A case if ever there was one of a lawyer acting for an estate who thought he understood the fiendish complexity of movie contracts and didn't. That's the sort of story that makes the hair on the heads of the likes of the Hendrix estate stand on end like a 70s perm. Maybe we'd all be wary in their position...

Cheers - C
