Where to buy a neck that fits, if you can (without wasting too much, like 40 and above). Can't buy from fender guitars.

And I've also had nice aftermarket necks from MightyMite, and one or two from WD Music. No idea who makes WD's necks, though. They don't say "Fender Licensed" anywhere on them, though it seems unlikely that WD would be doing anything illegal.

The world is full of people making Fender-style necks, in America, Europe and Japan and probably elsewhere. I don't know what the legal (trademark) status of those is, though, so I haven't tried them...

a £40 neck will be terrible. A $40 neck even worse. The only use you will get out of it will be for slide playing. Or stripping it to see how it works.

may well be better off to search for a £100 guitar secondhand and knock em down on the price

What I thought, but it would be cool to figure out how to make a neck :) .
