Is that what it says in that oval on the back of the headstock?

Oh, I see by the first post in this thread you know what the model is!
Duh ... (forehead slap)

I had thought all the Aerodynes are made in Japan  Does that say made in U.S.A. :?:

definitely US made so that rules out Aerodyne if that's Japanese.

so far then, all I know it's a 2001 Deluxe USA Stratocaster.
Still hopinging Fender will tell me:
the woods
the name of the special machine heads
how many made

It's Schaller Locking Tuners, i believe.

I also have ones in my HW1 8)

By the look of it, Morello has the self same guitar, down to the pickguard and knobs. 'Cept his has a Floyd Rose bridge and locking nut. That may be an aftermarket modification, so I presume you could search the net for information about his gear and find your answer. Don't know if he ever had a Fender Sig.

Incidentally, my Frontline Catalogue for 2006 shows black Aerodyne Strats and Teles, so they were obviously being made in America or Mexico at the time. No pickguard, and different knobs, though. And with more regular cosmetics they exist in the Special Edition section of this website today; currently listed with a basswood body (as it was in 2006).

Also in that 2006 catalogue in the Deluxe Series is the Big Block Strat, black alder body, black headstock with silver script, mirror pickguard with two (not three) Tele style knobs, and of course block markers on the neck not dots.

So what I think you have is an FSR Aerodyne/Big Block hybrid guitar from the turn of the century with either an alder or basswood body. Neither of those individual guitars had locking Schaller tuners a couple of years ago, so you lucked out there.

How's that?

Cheers - C

PS Are you British? Then get along and order yourself a Forum T-shirt (see the boxouts all over the pages). Currently and very unusually available outside the US. Don't be shy!

the serial number dater on the site says 2001 for my guitar.
Someone said Aerodyne Strats were Mexican. Were they right?
This one clearly states itself as made in USA.
The Wiki Page for Morello says he's put the Ibanez Edge Floyd Rose, a seymor duncan hotrail (which I'm considering doing myself) and a killswitch on it (which I'm not). that's about all I can get.
The guitar is the main one used in Audioslave, rather than RATM.

So what's left to find out? You are now clear on all the elements. The phrase FSR explains how they all came together.

It's a cool looking guitar for sure.

well, I'd like to be sure of the woods and I'd be interested to know how many were made.

I can then look into value for insurance purposes. I'm a gigging musician and accidents can happen, how ever careful you are.

Well, you have enough information to identify your 2001 FSR to Fender Consumer Relations to see if they have a record of production numbers. Though Forum member Blues Bondsman got what we might call a crisp response from them quite recently with a similar enquiry.

They may even be able to tell you the timber - but it is unlikely. You may just have to settle for knowing it is almost certainly either alder or basswood. Either is perfectly respectable.

Let us know if you find out anything else. More knowledge is always good.

Cheers - C

Maybe he could figure out what retailer sold them. They might still have an old webpage on them that gives some of the specs he wants to know.

Who sold them?
