on my 08 Am. St. strat it has the delta-tone system... is that active or passive circuitry?? the reason why i ask is that i am trying to re-create claptons current sound and i realized that his guitars have active circuits and before i order my Vintage Nioseless pups and fender active mid-boost i wanted to know becuase the mid-boost doesn't sound as full on passive circuitry as it does on one with active circuits. any help would be appreciated.thanks.

The mid boost is a active circuit. As soon as its put in the guitar becomes active. I just ditched the TBX on my boost and replaced it with a cts tone pot. When you buy the boost it comes with the pots, including the TBX so try it out. Some prefer it, I didnt.

The URL cited is an excellent resource for the basics

Note that TBX stands for treble/bass cut. In the detente position both are balanced. Towards the lower numbers gives you bass enhancement, the higher, treble enhancement. The active circuit's level of signal boost is controlled by the second of the two "tone" pots. Thus, with the Clapton Stratocaster, mixing these two with the use of the volume control gives one a vast range of tonal colorations to feed to the amplifier.

'Delta Tone is different. That tone pot gradually reduces the effect of the tone circuit until, at 10, the influence of tone control is out of the circuit completely. the feed is the unadulterated raw signal from the pickup.
Doc
