just bought a VG strat and i am getting a 60 cycle hum in the first, third and fifth position. i expect this on my less expensive strat and replaced them the noiseless pickups.i thought if i spent $1700 there should be no hum.i like the roland pickup options but when played in normal settings i am not impressed. any suggestions to correct this problem? is this normal ? what can i do to eliminate the hum?

VG strat has single coil pickups right? If so that's normal some hum.
Humbucker pickups should solve the problem :)

Yeah, u can pay $10,000 if u want but if it is a real single coil then it can still hum!
Sometimes getting to close to the amp head or
anything that generates electromagnetic fields make it worse.

Also, 60 cycle hum can be minimized with beefed up sheilding in the guitar.

I agree, you can pay thousands of dollars, it's still gonna hum if it has true single coils. Try some different pickups (duh) or shield it.

I am having the same hum but i took off the plastic thing that covered the pickguard... i thought it was to protect it (DONT JUDGE ME, I WAS YOUNG AND FOOLISH!!:) )

I am guessing it is cheaper to shield the pickguard.
