Just think, in another 30-40 years, that Strat you got now will be totally vintage and worth a lot of moolah! :D

I often think about that too - I dont think they will be worth quite as much as the vintage stuff is now, because of the amount of production - i could be wrong - but that would be my guess

But will it be worth anywhere near as much as a Strat that's currently 30, 40 or 50 years old?

Very doubtful because of sheer production numbers and to the fact that a "60's" Strat will always be truly vintage but a 2006 in 20026 will not really be vintage in comparison.

And just think how good you'll be if you keep playing until then! :)

I got my '76 Gibson SG in 1982 or so. At the time SGs were not highly sought after, and the thought of it actually increasing in value never even crossed my mind (to be kind). But now -- twenty six years later -- that Gibson IS considered "vintage" and HAS increased in value about 5x what I originally paid for it.

My point here: I think over 25 years our guitars will go up in value: MIAs more so than MIMs, and certain specialty models will be highly sought after (look how desirable that Dave Murray signature Strat is currently and it is only eight years old).

Definitely some (good) squier models. Look at how quickly squier's line of guitars has changed since the beginning of this century. Some were added, kept, and are now defunct. The M80's and the mij squiers are highly sought after. If you have one that is good, keep it, because it won't be on sale in a few decades!
