i guess it's an okay post...

I know the major, minor, blues, and a few other pentatonics all across the fretboard, the major scale, the aeolian mode (little work on that), KNow some of the harmonic minor scale, dorian, mixolydian, locrian, etc.

Know some stuff, though i don't know all of them as well as i know the pentatonics and major. I use the minor pentatonic and blues scale most because i play the blues :)

Well I was out on dissability for six weeks and went to GC and bought 2 little books on the major and minor penatonic scales and practiced them literally for hours a day.I basically knew them in one position and Im waiting to see if I can use them in real time application. And I know the mixolodian mode pretty well

Its taken me two or three months to learn the G-scale itself, since my guitar teacher is running me through it bit by bit...but hey, I'm learning better that way!

Otherwise I know about 6 or 7, one of them being the blues minor and I can't remember the others for the life of me.

Oh boy, I could go on with slimy gibberish but I’ll restrain myself. I honestly never really liked the idea of scales. When I took theory classes they threw them at you and limited you. Like mentioned before a scale is often put into a box/pattern but often ends up making you sound the same. Obviously everyone as to start somewhere but when you feel comfortable with all the "positions" try looking at it differently, like taking a step back and looking at the big picture. Guitar scales have been packaged so anybody can learn them but don't get stuck in them or you'll sound stale.

A way to start is playing horizontally instead of the common vertical box style or even playing around with modes and putting accents around chords with arpeggios. Think outside the box! :D

Then when you feel really adventurous, go check out whole tone scales or Hungarian gypsy scales... but watch your tube socks, it won't sound "good".

peace, love, p.
