I still say the man for the bar is Ritchie Blackmore. No one uses it like him. He uses it very wildly & freaky.

So true. The version of Highway Star on the Made in Japan album has some great, tasteful whammy bar use.

I use the whammy quite often. I play a lot of Pink Floyd/David Gilmour, so it's a must.

I even use it when playing with my blues band, but only subtle on solo's and occaisionally for chord-vibrato.

The whammy is indispensable for a lot of songs I like. It's a major selling feature for me with the Strat.

I use it occasionally,
I like SRV kind of stuff and he made good use of it.
And I'm currently learning a couple of Pink Floyd songs so it might get a bit of use there too.

So far no tuning issues at all with the AMD.

IMHO: The trem is just a tool.
You can ignore it (might as well have bought a hardtail or a tele).
You an use it.
Or you can abuse it (Which is where I think many have problems with it on a strat, the strat trem is not really designed for hard dives and generally going nuts on it.)

I use my whammy bar anytime I want to add vibrato or emphasis on certain notes. I string bend a lot and sometimes use the whammy bar at the same time, it almost has a screaming quality. I actually use the side of my hand against the tremelo bridge to do that stuff, but when dive bombing I'll use the bar itself.

Yeh im not a big fan of the whammy bar as it goes out of tune too easily

I use it on one of my other guitars but as it has the tremolo system i think its a great idea! :D

Hey,
Just curious. I'm kind of a simple guy. On my strats I've tightened the springs down on the bridge and basically use it as a hardtail. My whammy bars stay in that little compartment inside the case. I play a lot of different stuff, but never found a real use for them :)

I really use the whammy. It is awesome. If you learn how to use it well it can really enhance your playing.

I started playing strats and jazzmasters way back, and have always used the whammy.

The Ventures, and Duane Eddy were around when I started playing. I guess I just got used to it and sort of learned subliminal tricks at coming back in tune.

51 years of playing causes a person to "Just Do It"

I'd rather have it to use than lose it. I do have a wobble every now and then 8) .
The secret to strat trems is to have em floating but balance em properly. when the trem returns to pitch it sorts a lot of the flat strings out if it can go slightly sharp before returning to pitch. Thats a great trick for worn floyds too, after a dive pull up then back to pitch, to help the pivot points return to the worn point.
Of course you need to sort you nut, string trees and tuners out with a strat too.

Hi,

I would like to ask a question connected with tremolo bridge.
I almost always play without using the tremolo. Do you think, that springs on the back side of a guitar should be muted when tremolo is not in use (for example by placing a piece of material there, to stop them from vibrating)? Do they have influence on guitar sustain / sound?

Thank you in advance,

Best Regards

Tomek

i think any difference is negligable.
