hey guys, quick question.

i recently picked up a Tom Delonge signature MIM deluxe strat from a mate who no longer wanted it because he plays mostly acoustic now.

if anyones familiar with it, its the one with a single seymour duncan invader in the bridge position, and a single volume knob.

now my question is this, is there any way possible that i can install another pickup into the neck? i know a lot of work and materials would be required, etc new pickguard, pickup switches an knobs etc. but i was wondering if it would be at all possible because there may not be enough wiring in there? im not much of a virtuoso when it comes to guitar electronics so any feedback would be much appreciated.

Just a guess, but think that for the price of doing the mod, you could probably find a good used MIM strat that would give you what you're after.

Into the neck? Perhaps you could install one into the body ... take a peak under the pickguard and tell us what kind of routing is under there.

If it's routed for a middle and neck pickup, it would be an easy job ... just get yourself a new pickguard with the pickup and volume/tone configuration you want and bingo! it would be a quick conversion.

If it's not routed to take more pickups, how handy are you with a router?

No need to check under the hood.
If it is a real Tom Delonge Strat, then it has routing only for the bridge HB and the standard one for the pots (although now you have only one volume).
Hope it helps.
P.S. It will be auful if you spoil this guitar. If you are not satisfied with it - find another strat and let someone who likes the Tom Delonge to get the chance to own it.

ditto. that guitar is too nice, and discontinued. it's surely to be a collector's piece in it's original condition, and to some people, it already is. you're lucky enough to have one, and i'm building a squier. that makes me jealous. it would just piss off a lot for unnecessary destruction. buy a mim strat, and hack it up. those are a dime a dozen, however delonge strats become more rare as days pass.

what color is it?

and does anyone know what size pot is best with the invader? (I.E. what's standard in a delonge?)

Go crazy!
Yes you can do it, but it's gonna be a bit of work (routing/electronics).
Fairly simple but time consuming.
I hate purists... then again if it was a '59 jazzmaster i wouldn't say that.

peace, love, p.

yeah, perhaps you guys are right. it seems like a little too much work. but yeah, the seymour duncan invader absolutely screams, and actually has a better clean then a lot of people give it credit for.

btw its a standard MIM delonge strat in black with the white pearloid pickguard.
