Hey,
Why do you want to sound just like Clapton anyways?

He probably has his performance and recording guitars made in a secret lab with dedicated Fender techs. Just play his stuff with your std setup and your feeling and call it a day. I like to play other folk's songs and put my own 'stank' on it.
Playing is too personal to try and sound just like somebody else.....

Just my opinion.

I agree, you should find your own sound. Originality is what makes an artist stand out.

These have been mated, lately, to a variety of vintage tweed amplifiers, likely modded as suggested, and run through limited number of effects pedals.
By the way, pot settings and/or channel mixing on these amps have NEVER been made public.
It is said that Eric went to the Vintage Noiseless because they give him more clarity in the high end. I tend to believe it was politics between Fender and Actodyne which makes Lace.

-it appears that Eric uses the mid-boost on full at all times

Doc

On the subject of vintage tweed amps i seem to remember they dont have much range in the amps tone controls when you take them past 6 on the volume. I remember a interview with kirk hammet of metalica, who is a avid amp collecter. He was saying about how he came by a rare 50's fender amp, there are only 5 in the world known about and Eric clapton ownes 1 and keith richards owns two of em. Considering this it could be possible that the majority of Erics tone is through volume and rigging 2 amps to cover different areas of pitch.
Whatever you hear from your CD or even club/arena p.a system, at claptons level of performance will be mixed down to the extreme and probably very different to the stage sound from his amp.

The fact that he has his mid-boost on full all the time is totaly believable.
Vintage noiseless pickups are very very trebley and hard work to master. Hit a note wrong and it sounds awfull. This is tempered somewhat by the boost.

How does the boost sound with SCN's Doc? Im going to ridiculous lengths to darken my sound with the vintage noiseless.

If you watch Clapton play, he will turn the mid-boost up for solos and then back down. Go to the Cream Reunion website and it lists all of the gear Clapton used in the Albert Hall Concerts.
