There is a 50s American Original Strat for sale at my local Guitar Center, that is marked down pretty substantially, but obviously for cosmetic reasons. (Priced at $1199) I like the tone of the guitar, but I am wondering if I should be concerned with some of the cosmetic issues. There are cracks in finish of the maple fretboard and headstock. Also around the frets the finished is almost crackling separating from the frets. The pickguard itself has almost like a little raised bubble below the bridge pickup (maybe the screws are off on the pickguard?) Google images link below are a couple of pictures. Wanted to get some opinions on the wear and tear.

It appears that the guitar was subjected to some rapid-and-dramatic temperature variations. I'd pass on it myself.

Ditto. I like the look of ageing on a guitar but that doesn't look "right". I am uncomfortable that the neck has gone in isolation and bu the way in which it has gone.

It would need to be cheaper than that to tempt me as I would want enough in hand for a replacement neck if necessary and to cover the drop in value of the guitar with a replacement neck.
