I know this topic has been debated to death at this point in time but what do you prefer out of American and Mexican made Strats?

My strat is an American Pro and I honestly cannot find an MIM strat that feels or sounds half as good....

American hands down. Although I have played some really nice MIM over the years. Honestly a lot of it comes down to the setup. A good luthier can make a MIM play like butta.

If you talk to me, I don't understand what you mean.

Considering the price difference I would hope that to be the case.

If you compare an American Special (or what ever they are called this week) and a high end MiM (which might be of comparable or greater price) the conclusion is far less cut and dried.

I think this is standard answer 12, but it may be higher.

Well; to be fair...I can only do a comparison based on guitars that I have spent LOTS of time with.

I have owned an American Hwy. 1 Strat with a Rosewood fretboard, and have put hours and hours on a buddies American Standard Strat with a Maple fretboard (he's even let me bring it home for weeks at a time) both stock...and I prefer all three of my Mexican Standard Strat's over both of those Americans.

1). 2012 with Maple fretboard. Only modification is switched to American string tree and added a second one. Decked trem with five springs instead of three. (this is my "go to" guitar)
2). 2014 with Rosewood fretboard. All stock, no modifications. Decked trem with original three springs.
3). 2015 with Maple fretboard. Heavy modifications. Steel trem block set to float, roller bridge saddles, Tusq nut, roller string tree, and locking tuners.

The HW1 was the forerunner to the Special and built as a cheap MiA. I like mine but found the PUP poles annoying until I put spacers under the covers. That said I prefer my Road Worn (which would perhaps have cost more new) and my partscaster which might have a MiM neck.

It is difficult to generate an affinity to a loaner because you know it is going back. I have guitars I wasn't that keen on initially and now really like.

There are aspects of MiA's that I prefer. The height adjuster spacing on the bent steel saddles is better IMHO. The string trees, but these are only appropriate on a newer style Strat. Otherwise it is very guitar specific.

I have too many guitars - there I came out and said it - but if I were buying another Strat it would be a MiA. There is no real logic in that aside it would need to be a high end model to give me anything more than I already have, and there is still that Mojo of a MiA that you don't get with a MiM.

Well; I DID start the whole thing off by saying:

I suppose it could also be said that some prefer the Made In USA models because they are the original, the beginning, nostalgic, etc...which definitely carries a certain "mojo" in and of itself. That's got nothing to do with the 'feel' or 'fit' in each individuals' hands.

I like Metallica's version of 'Turn The Page' over Bob Segar's yet I like Bob Segar & The Silver Bullet Band better as musicians. If that makes sense.
There is no correct answer.

This doesn't sound like the premise for a debate; you're not thinking of selling your guitar, or that you're missing out on something, so what are you trying to prove?
