Curious to hear some opinions on what you think about Rosewood vs. Maple. What do you like the feel of more? I recently bought an American Pro Strat with the maple neck and i really love the feel of it. Eric Clapton is a strong believer that maple is so much smoother for bending with as rosewood can feel a bit resistant. What are your thoughts?

Originally I preferred rosewood but now prefer maple so how's that for a contradiction!
The disadvantage of maple is after a while you can wear thru the finish and expose the maple which is no big deal. Where's ebony in this conversation.... :D

I wouldn't say wearing through the finish and exposing the maple is a disadvantage there's alot of musicians out there that believe a worn in maple neck gives it the "dreamy feel" Billy Corgan is a firm believer of that.

First of all you should talk about a rosewood or maple board, not a neck.
Yes, almost everybody does it but that does not make it less wrong.

The Clapton story is bullshit to me, he gets payed a lot for his signature models by Fender, so ofcourse he will praise a maple board nowadays.
For years he played guitars with a rosewood board, never heard him complain.

+1

And IMO he was at the top of his game during the Cream era.

Seriously

When he started playing Strats he bought several and swapped the necks.

EJ thinks maple sounds different, but he has Super Hero Ears

l have both and it is much more the feel of the whole guitar than just the neck/board that matters. Fret size and edge finish have much more impact on feel.

I don't see what commercial advantage Fender would gain in promoting Maple necks over Dark Wood. l also think Eric has enough money that he will play what ever he wants.

If you don’t see things like this (your words) that’s okay.
As you can read above I think different.

I have always preferred Maple because my first electric guitar is Maple, and that was the only electric I had for the first 2 decades of my guitar playing life. As I started buying more and more gear; to date (nearly 4 decades) I have found only 2 Starts and 1 Tele with Rosewood fretboards (of the many, many I've had in my hands) that I decided to purchase and/or keep. If there are more out there (Rosewood or now Pau Ferro) I have not had them in my hands.

To sum it up; I like every Maple fretboard I have played...but I'm pretty picky on the feel of Rosewood.
Also...I don't know there is a whole lot of difference in 'tone' between Rosewood and Maple; but I can feel and hear a difference in sustain and vibration. Maple wins that battle in my hands.

If you're looking for absolution or validation for your lumber preference of maple over rosewood, I doubt you'll find it here (or anywhere else for that matter). Good luck in your quest though.

Considering both "Brownie" and "Blackie" were created long before Clapton had any sort of relationship with Fender I don't understand your logic. Please explain.
