Banal point of information: it was the nitrocellulose lacquer that the pigment was suspended in that yellowed, less so the pigment itself. And the pigment in the modern paints mostly hasn't been changed, it is the paint "medium" which is usually different, these days - polyester on cheaper guitars, polyurethane on American models (for the most part). Much more stable - less prone to yellowing.

So Mr Hendrixfan is right, that a HWY-1 in that color would indeed yellow quickly, not because the finish is thin, but because it is nitro.

There again, the pigments themselves do change over time, but generally more slowly. So leave any white guitar long enough, then take off the pickguard and you will see the paint underneath where it was protected from the light is noticeably brighter than the rest of the body.

... It's been a slow day on the Forum, hasn't it? - C

How about accelerating the aging process with UV lights? :)

Yep, that would move things along. Leave the guitars on the sunbed for a few months for a fast vintage. But that might do all kinds of other damage: don't think your timber would like that. On second thoughts, better leave it to nature.

The custom shop must have all kind of rubs, stains and varnishes to accelerate the process for the heavy relic orders.
