Greetings. My name is Dan, and I live in Montana. I'm going to get into the Fender scene(started on gibsons), and wanted to ask a question concerning color for a MIM 2008 standard strat. I desperately want a strat that 'yellows' like Hendrix's guitar. Was that the Vintage White, or Arctic White? Does Fender still use the same finish and paint that allows these colors to 'yellow'? or did they stop using the laquer thing? Anyway, please let me know. Thanks for the info, and glad to be here in Fender-Land!!! Peace and truth.

Welcome to the Forum.

You would want vintage White and it will take many years to yellow the way you want.

As Chet said, you'd want the vintage. I think the modern coats that they put on the guitar may be a bit more durable, making it less susceptible to that sort of thing, but I could be wrong. I think it would take quite some time though.

The Olympic White will fade but the Vintage White starts off with an off white coloration.

The finishes of today are better and it will take longer for the color to change.

Thanks for all the help, folks. It is much appreciated. It's too bad that they don't offer the standard MIM strat in Vintage white. I'm a lefty too, so that makes the options even stricter!!?? :( I am suprised that they changed the finishes like they have, since I can't think of anything cooler on a strat than the faded yellow look. Thanks again, folks. Peace and truth.

Check places like Craigslist and eBay for used Vintage White Strats.
I found my LEFTY 1986 Fender MIJ '72 RI Strat in Vintage White on Craigslist, and it was inexpensive.

Yeah, ebay or something may have the guitar already worn out for you and still in great playing shape. Never know until you look I suppose.

The Malmsteen Signature Strat has a bit of a yellow color...although I suppose you'd have to be a fan of scalloped fretboards for that....

Olympic white is the colour Hendrix used but the new olympic white what they use doesn't fade any more. I'd go for an American Vintage or Vintage Hot Rod.

it's too bad they don't make the highway one in olympic white, cuz that would yellow real easily because of the thin finish.

There's 2 white Strats that Fender make. The Artic White which is real white, white, and the Olympic White which is an off like cream color white. Hendrix's guitar was Olympic White. Looks like a sort of cream white or off white if you will. It was also either a 68 model.
