hi!
I changed my mind and decided to deck my 2 point american strat but when I did so, I noticed the front of the bridge plate was sticking up much higher than the pickguard.

I tried to lower the 2 posts but they were already as tight as they would go. It’s more of an aesthetic issue (and a petty one for that matter) but I’d really appreciate some advice to make the height of it even with the Pickguard.

thank you :))

I don't know what else could be done. If you have a One Ply pickgaurd...switch to Three Ply. If you already have a Three Ply pickgaurd, your other option is to 'Route' out the spot below the bridge plate to lower it---if that's even possible.

You haven't just tightened the bridge screws under string and spring tension have you?
If you did you've screwed up the knife edges on the tremolo baseplate, and probably the recesses in the screws too.

I've just had a look at my American Deluxe Stratocaster, and the bridge plate is flat to the body.
The front edge of the baseplate sits approx 1mm (0.04") proud of the scratchplate.
It's barely noticeable.

Is the baseplate flat on the body of your guitar?

That would be the last thing you should do as it will ruin a perfectly good body and render it close to worthless, no matter how well it is done. And the other thing is the saddles will likely have to be raised to a ridiculous angle to get the appropriate action, giving an evil break over.

If it is an issue (all of my trems are decked and I've never notice it) you could get a fatter scratch plate from the likes of Warmouth or fit a 60's style aluminium plate under the pick guard.

Is not the front of the trem beveled?

As far as I know it is to help it rock, which would make the front be high if you cranked down on the trem springs

I have a feeling the OP has a situation like this, which is due to the tremolo being set up incorrectly in the first place

The tremolo should be set up like this

The 2 screws mentioned are probably the ones on the spring claw
