Im new to Fender and this forum, so let me start by saying hello to everyone. Hello everyone!

I recently bought my first Fender, a Mexican Player Limited Edition, and this guitar shows a problem I havent seen before.
Ive got the guitar connected directly into the instrument input of my MOTU 828, which is connected to Studio One Pro, where I use Positivegrid, Brainworx and Waves virtual amps and pedals.
When I use a drive, either from an amp or a pedal in front of an amp, Im getting an extremely loud hum, so loud that it is audible when playing, over the sound of the guitar and makes the sound awful to listen to and unusable for recording.
Also, when I put a finger on the switch button from a hardware pedal, that is only connected to power outlet and is not in chain with the guitar, the hum even increases and without any drive on the sound, I can see the VU meters of Studio One spike, when I touch the pedal's switch.
Note that the power outlet the pedals are connected to is on another electric group than the computer and audio interface are connected to, so they are in no way connected to eachother.

The loud hum, as well as the strange behaviour when touching a pedal happens only with my Fender and no other guitar has ever shown this problem. I myself generally use Ibanez, Cort and Warwick, but other people have brought in a range of brands and types, from low budget to high-end and this problem has never occured before I connected the Fender.

Could someone please advise me how to procede with finding and fixing this problem?

Cheers!
Maarten

IMO the issue are coming from your effect pedals and /or other gear, like a ground issue, ground loop or poor pedal power supply.
Not from the guitar.

Hi Maarten,

Welcome to the forum.

The single pole nature of Stratocatster pickups can be more prone to hum than guitars fitted with humbuckers - this is partially why humbuckers and noiseless pickups are a thing.

Using guitars through software can produce similar issues to using guitars through very loud amps insofar as every little thing gets heard and the gain structure can be unnaturally high.

Some things you could try:-

Use a different guitar and see if the issues are the same or similar. A Humbucker guitar may mask the problem, in part, even if the problem doesn't relate to the guitar though.

Change the guitar lead.

Try turning yourself so that the guitar is in a different orientation or location to the other electrical gear.

Try using the Strat on switch position 2 or 4 as this turns the two single coils into the equivalent of a humbucker.

Try plugging the Strat directly into your interface without the pedals to see what happens.

Try the above but with individual pedals. Note that some pedals just don't play well with each other and can produce noise no matter what rig you use. This can be more prevalent when using multiple digital processors in the chain. Try the pedals with batteries or separate power supplies. Some of my pedals give real issues if using the same power brick, it is just one of those things and why you can pay $20 or $200 for a pedal power supply.

Try the guitar on its own with a real amp and see what happens.

Loop the guitar lead through the strap to remove any pressure on the output jack.

Check/change the output jack.

It could be the guitar is set up badly and requires the rest of the chain to be very "loud" to "hear" the guitar. Is there a noticeable volume difference between the Start and another guitar?

There are so many factors and, particularly using multiple pedals, this can change from day to day.

All this said, single coil pickups aren't humbuckers. They are different and don't cancel hum.
