Hello, everyone!

I would like to be a proud owner of a Strat (obviously duh!) and I have my eye on this Strat for sale. The owner says it's a japanese made Fender, Floyd Rose series, and yet, the trem system is a Schaller. I know Fender Japan had some crazy guitars late 80's early 90's, with crazy colours and systems. Could this be one of those? The other thing it doesn't seem right is the way the scratchplate goes over the trem screws. Is this right?
The price on this one is really good and I'd like to get it but I don't want to end up with a dog. As you can see, the neck had some tainting work prior to the current owner and the luthier messed up the serial number. The place is correct, but I can't figure it out to see if it's the real deal on Fender's website.
Can you guys spot something off? I already asked for some shots of the inside of pups' cavity, but I'm still waiting for those to be sent. Should I expect to find some markings or a japanese serial number inside pups holes?
In your opinion, is this beauty the real thing or a fake?
All the help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

HORSESHIT!

That serial number has been deliberately defaced.

I'll leave it to you to guess why.

Well that puts a whole new light on "Roasted Maple".

The neck has been butchered and the Serial Nº has obviously been deliberately obliterated - lets all guess why that might be.

The Machine heads have been changed and don't actually fit on the headstock by the looks of it.

Is it just me but I thought coloured headstocks tended to match the colour of the body?

Based on the above I would leave well alone.

Not always.
I have an early HM Strat, and the guitar body is white with a black headstock face

The serial has been messed up deliberately, so it's either stolen property, or a faker has been messing around.
It might be a partscaster.
Why someone thought is a good idea to darken the look of the neck with a blowtorch is beyond imagination.
The scratchplate cutout looks like someone used their teeth.

I wouldn't buy it.

I think you are right. Someone got a blow torch to obliterate the Serial Nº then perhaps did the rest of the neck to try to hide the fact. Based on the margin between the burnt timber and the body I am inclined to think the neck was attached to another body at the time.

I thought that too. The heel is also more "worked" than the resto of the neck but I don't have Luther experiencia, so I wouldn't know for sure. That's why I posted the question. Besides, the tremolo bridge isn't a Floyd rose 2, as this series used to have. I thought that it might get upgraded to a better Schaller bridge but it doesn't seem that much different than the Floyd 2. There's some inconsistencies. Do you think it might be a Squier with a fender neck? Something else?

Whatever it is or was, I'd recommend walking away from it.

I think it could be a Squier neck and body.
That would account for the screw holes on the back of the headstock, and having a painted face on the headstock would disguise the Squier truss rod hole.
Waterslide decals are easily faked.

I too like Graffiti Yellow Strats (and they're hard to find) - but not this one! There are so many flaws, most of which you've identified yourself, I wouldn't buy it at any price.

Unless you're dead set on a Floyd, buy a decent Strat (MIM if not MIA) of any colour, and have it refinished by a pro. You'll get yourself a yellow Strat at a still-reasonable price. That's my suggestion.

Couple of years ago I bought a cheap MIA and had it refinished in Sonic Blue nitro, so I have put my money where my mouth is!

Cheers - Peter.
