Hi guys,
As to Rosewood or maple neck ,which would you prefer & why? DO you think it really matters.I always thought that Rosewood gave a better 'grip' for Rock fast lead & bends 'cause the maple looked more glossy & slippery! I could be way out of wack on that thought.Anyway does it really matter? Is there any difference in measurements between a rosewood & maple neck?

Do a search, it's been asked 10s of times. You will find plenty of opinions :)

Yes. Further, this is purely a personal preference that can only be answered by playing both, and making your own mind up.

It is personal preference. Go and try the two out. I personally prefer maple because it gives a sharper sound, while the rosewood gives a warmer sound. Just remember that maple was on strats and teles first, then rosewood. Good luck

I"ll play......I prefer Rosewood, mainly for it's looks, and it doesn't show wear after time, like the maple necks. Also....it's more expensive to refret a maple fretboard.

I'd go for the rosewood if you prefer that typical early '60s blues look but maple's looks quite good on stage. I personally prefer rosewood necks on bright coloured bodies but I think maple looks quite nice on darker ones.

It's weird with me. When I played Gibsons like SGs, Les Pauls, and Flying Vs there was no options, so I always played Gibsons with Rosewood necks. I didn't start considering the 2 options until I started playing Fenders and I've played Maple necks on all the Strats that I've owned in where when I played the Gibsons, I didn't make any choice. I don't even think there is an option for a Rosewook or Maple neck on a Gibson. When playing Gibsons I just bought it with the neck it came with which was always Rosewoods and took them as they were. Before I purchased Fender Stratocasters since I new you could order with a Rosewood or Maple neck it's always been Maple on those.

-> Maple is generally used to make guitar necks. It is a very dense, hard wood that is not rare and often displays brilliant figuring when milled. It's figuring, its white/blonde color, and its tonal characteristics make it a favorite wood for a veneer or top laminate on more expensive solidbody guitars. It is also found as a top wood in some archtop guitars, where it is usually laminated. Its hardness brings out the trebles in a guitar's sound. It is sometimes used as a fretboard wood where it adds definition to the sound.

->Rosewood is the most common wood found on electric guitar fretboards. It is very dense and hard and can be quite beautiful, ranging in color from almost black to variegated brown and blond.

In stetics i prefer rosewood but maple looks good with dark colors too.
Make your choice

Yes, me too. I came up the guitar ranks with Gibsons and rosewood fretboards.
