What's next?

How about a reissue of the Ritchie Blackmore stratocaster!??

I have to question why the David Gilmour Custom Strat retails for nearly 4 times as much as the Billy Corgan Artist Strat?

I think that there's one blaring fallacy in the idea of buying a Corgan or Gilmour model guitar. The fallacy is that you can't possibly think that purchasing the instrument will make you sound like the player. I like to listen to Carlos Santana sometimes too, but I'm pretty sure that the PRS guitar isn't going to give me his sound.
There's so much more that goes into tone than pickups, amplifiers, strings, woods, tuners or effects. I subscribe to the belief that the PLAYER is by far, the most important part of the guitar. That said, the artist models obviously do inspire people to play the instrument... And that's a good thing. When I think of Corgan and "Smashing Pumpkins," I think there are still many chapters to be written. As far as RATING a signature instrument, that's a very subjective topic.
Clearly, David Gilmour or Carlos Santana are much more complete as an Artist than Corgan. But, I'd have to argue that raw SKILL plays a part of the equation too- Young guys like Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Joe Bonamassa have signature guitars as well, despite being relatively incomplete as artists compared to a Gilmour or a Santana. However, guys like KW Shepherd and Smoking Joe Bonamassa have such raw SKILL that I have to say they RATE. Does that make sense :?:
