Okay, first off I'm all for signature models. I've owned my share of them and currently have a Mayer strat in my arsenal. But how is it Billy Corgan gets a signature model with Fender?

its simple.
he's a very acomplished player who has played strats live, to my knowledge, since their platinum cd 'melanchony and the infinite sadness'.
It may not be to your taste, i personaly detest that whole indie/grunge thing, but it doesnt stop it selling.
I cant see the appeal in john mayer either. Its just my taste and not important to anyone outside of this seat.
Why dont fender do a paul simon strat, with just 1 pickup in the center.
It wouldnt sell. It has no appeal to anyone outside of Simon diehards. Unlike the corgan/mayer/clapton strats its appeal is limited as are its uses.

why shouldnt he? hes played a strat for some time and his music is very original. I remember reading an article about what mods hes made, and while I cant remember what they were, it was just like every other guitarist on the planet, heavily modded. Billy Corgans style and sound are definitely his own. I would like to buy one.

I can understand why Billy corgan is getting a signature model strat, what I dont understand is why John Frusciante isn't. I mean Come On Fender and please make that happen! :!:

I think that was my point when I started this post. What makes one guitarist right for a signature model? How many is too many? I think Billy is an excellent musicians and is deserving of his accomplishments.

These are for sale…. If it sells, then it will be around. If it doesn't it will be dropped. That's why they make them. If you like Mr. Corgan, or you want a rail humbucker hard tail. Fender is now making a great Stratocaster for you. If you need a more affordable rail humbucker strat, then a deluxe Squier is available. I’m sure both of these are very nice guitars that sound and play great.

yah if they actually ever made a frusciante strat it would be basically a '62. he doesn't mod any of his guitars that i've ever heard.

wouldn't stop me from buying it. i'm a big jeff beck fan, but i can't see spending $1500 for a strat with a curved heel, lsr roller, locking tuners and noiseless hot pups.

a frusciante strat... hrm, i guess next on the list is a 62.

I'd be curious if they made a Mick Mars strat, have they done that yet?

He certainly seems to fit the mold of the player type, just wonder if it would sell.

So it would be an H-S-H with Floyd Rose trem, right? Isn't there a Squire that they still sell that uses a Floyd Rose trem? So, I guess they have the ingredients. I agree with you. I bet if they made this as an upscale MIM (but still affordable), they would sell a ton of them.

I'd certainly be interested in an affordable MIM mick mars strat. It'd be tough to promote it though, he's not that easy on the eyes, lol.

I'm not a huge fan of the Smashing Pumpkins, but I do like a lot of their songs. Corgan is an excellent songwriter and arranger. I particularly like Corgan's buzzsaw guitar tones from the early to mid-90's. That's why I'm going to buy this guitar (when they're finally stocked in adequate supplies).

It's simple but solid, provides the endless sustain I seek, and has the guts to achieve the humbucking-overdriven hard high-gain sound that I want to add to the crystal clear tones of my Fender American Deluxe Telecaster.

As far as I'm concerned, it's all about tone and quality. This guitar is a winner for certain players, especially for the price. I'll always back Fender products because they've never failed me.

I'm interested in comments by people who already own or who've played this model.

Anybody know when more of this model will be shipped to retail outlets? Everyone's out of stock right now.

+1 -- Besdies the fact he COMPLETELY rates having a sig guitar, I think the actual content of the guitar is the most important thing (and not the owner of the signature). Personally, I like his guitar setup. If I was in the market, I'd definitely consider one.
