Hello,

I’m new to the forum and have a few questions and/or or recommendations. I live in a small town with about 1000 people in it. The nearest shop with a decent selection is hours away. I am
Obsessed with the old fiesta red colored strats. And I have found a two that I absolutely love.

1. Fender custom shop closet classic in fiesta red with rosewood board and case. Brand new 1600 bucks

2. Artist series Mark Knopfler mint, case candy etc 2300 bucks.

There isn’t any question as to getting a red one with a rosewood board. I just don’t know what the difference is in them. I am in the market for a new fiesta red strat. But, as I said I usually have to buy sight unseen. Are these good deals? Also, does anyone have any other models they like? I’d prefer MIA. But like I said this is a whole new world I am getting in lol. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Kyle

The Closet Classic Strat will likely have the 57/62 pickup set while the Mark Knopfler signature model comes with Texas Specials. IIRC the MK guitar is a slightly different shade from Fiesta Red (perhaps Torino Red?). The prices for both instruments seem about average. For that type of investment you *really* ought to make that journey however arduous and play them in person before you buy. Your wallet and your conscience will thank you.

Bruce,

I would love to make the journey. The kicker is, one is in Utah and the other one is In Florida. And I live in the middle of Illinois lol.

That's a good price for the closet classic. Check it is genuine and has the certificate of authenticity.
As much as I like MK I don't go for artist guitars but that model is reasonably rare hence the price tag.
The closet classic has a slightly worn finish. You do not mention the exact model but if it is the 1960 it has a thin neck and may have custom shop 60 pickups. Should come with a brown tolex case as well.
See if the deal includes right of return if you are not happy. :)

What’s your level of playing? What’s the guitar for? What’s sounds or tone are you searching for?
I just went through this exciting process of purchasing a new daily driver and was in a very similar position and want to suggest some ideas. You will never believe what I ended up with...

Arjay's right - the MK Strat isn't Fiesta Red, so if (like me!) you're infatuated with Fiesta Red, there's only one choice, surely?

Bearing in mind we pay in £ what you pay in $, even 1600 of our £ would be an absolute bargain for this CS Strat. If you can be convinced it's genuine, snap it up! That's assuming they have a returns policy if there's something badly wrong with it (warped neck or something, not wear & tear). I'm taking into account that you can't visit the store, although you really should make that trip if you possibly can!

Cheers - Peter.
