I got an American Original 60s Strat recently. From the get go it had a buzz on the G string along the entire fretboard as well as the high E choked out, and both needed a string height of +2mm at 17th. The frets seem to be more “leveled” in the middle with flatter tops than frets at the nut end. The relief from the factory was .20”

I would’ve just returned it, but I already dinged the finish pretty badly and they won’t take it back. So I took it to a local luthier that is going to dress the frets and set it up.

I hate that I have to do this to a new guitar.

I’m actually not all that surprised it needs a setup, but an entire fret level?! C’est la vie

It otherwise looks and sounds beautiful

Any chance of giving the measurements in metric or Imperial?
You've used a mix of the two, and it looks like there could be a decimal point in the wrong place.

Did you ding the neck? Or did that dinging have some effect to the frets?
I mean, a ding in the body shouldn't affect the warranty (let alone the consumer rights by legislation) of a neck.
So, who carries the cost of the fret job?

Ding or otherwise I would have thought having a fret dress should come under warranty. The shop don't want it returned because they can't just sell it on at a minimal discount as B Stock.

I would certainly play up and not let it go. It might even be a twisting neck which would render the guitar useless, require a replacement neck which then won't give a Serial Number matching the guitar thus devaluing it by half if you came to sell.
