I think Robin Trower in 1980. Very loud. Although I have a tape of Hendrix at Newport Pop Festival and it is probably the loudest guitar I've heard. Wish I could have seen him.

Fast eddie clarke
Motorhead, birmingham odeon 1979.
Infact thats the loudest gig i've ever been to.

2nd place
Nils lofgren
Estreet band, villa park, birmingham 1985.
The wattage was definatly louder than motorhead, but the sound pressure just wasnt there with it being a open air gig, so motorhead sounded louder being in a enclosed venue.

The Strat players I know have turned down the volume because most of them have some degree of hearing loss after years of playing loud. The loudest guy I've heard inthe last few years is Michael Locke of the Repeat Offenders, but he's turned it down, too. So has Pete Townsend, another Strat-playing hearing victim.

Townsend in 82 at a Who show in Florida. Blackmore in 78 at a Sabbath show in Philly. Damn loud stuff.

EDIT: I have no idea why I typed Blackmore. I meant Iommi.

Mick Mars at the Motley Crue concert I saw a few years ago...takes a lot to drown out Tommy Lee.

I heard Trower quite a few times in the mid-to-late-'70s.

But the loudest Strat player I ever heard had to be Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple circa 1974 (the Stormbringer tour).

Easily, it had to be Ritchie Blackmore in 1972 when Deep Purple was touring to promote the (then) new Machine Head album.

Yeah, I wonder if Blackmore was even going through the PA back then or was it all Stage Volume. Man!

Mick Mars was loud this weekend at the PNC bank arts center in Holmdel, NJ. Played an awesome rendition of Voodoo Child, couldn't believe how much it sounded like Stevie.
