I bought a used SRV Series Strat. It is in decent condition, but certainly not mint. It was played, and that is what I bought it for, to play it. My hands and rather large. I played one of the very first SRV's that were sent to Guitar Center in Austin. Immediately, it fit like a glove and I loved the sound of the Texas Specials. Unfortunately, I could not afford one at that time. Years later, I had an opportunity to purchase a used one. Anyway, I have noticed that there is quite a bit of neck buzz. I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with this. I live in East Texas now and do not really "trust" any of the shops locally to work on the neck. I have tried raising the action, but I think it may be up as far as it needs to go. Any suggestions? (Of course my 2004 American Deluxe Strat has totally different adjustments).

Thanks for ANY help or suggestions!

It could be a number of things. Its hard enough to determine from photo's, any kind of neck problem needs to be diagnosed through hands on experience.
if you could post some pictures of
1 down the neck from the headstock end
2 up the neck from the body end
3 the nut
4 the trem
we would have a chance of spotting it.

I don't know but this may seem crazy, but do you know what Stevie Ray Vaughn used for a high E string. A 013! Ted Nugent one night tried to play his guitar and said "Man I can't even play this thing at all". It's also documented on the internet, do a Google search, and it also mentions after a while Stevie's guitar tech had told him to stop using .013s and he threw in an .011 one night to save on the guys fingers. Even an .011 is still to heavy for me because I use .008s. .013? Are you kidding?

Sounds like it could use a fret job.

I know about Stevie's strings. I have been playing since I was 7 (now 39) with a few hiatus' in between. I have used smaller gauges when I was into the hard rock scene back in the 80's and playing alot of the "hair band" type metal where I wanted a lot of artifical "pinch" harmonics. I met Stevie twice. Once in 1982 (didn't know who he was and I was at a guitar shop in Dallas when he and some others came in.) He came over and we talked, jammed a little and I left (I hate that now). The next year when Texas Flood came out, my drummer showed me the picture on the back and I was thunderstruck. I had been hearing this album, but since there was no internet and my town didn't have MTV, I hadn't been able to see his picture. Then in late 1983 (or 84), I saw him at a little club in south Dallas called the Bronco Bowl and stayed after the second set. He REMEMBERED me. We had spoken about Jimi Hendrix and he said "You were the guy playing Hey Joe at Charley's" I still think that was WAY cool! Anyway, I really don't think that the gauge has much to do about the buzzing. I have tried smaller gauges and still get it. I hope that someone can suggest a really good shop around here. I may just take it over TO Dallas and get Charley's or Arnold and Morgan (where Stevie used to buy his stuff when he was a teenager). Thanks for the post!

Thanks for the reply. I really don't think that a picture would really do anything. From looking at it, all of the frets "appear" to clear the strings okay. I really would like to find a shop that I could really trust to take it to. I live in East Texas and Dallas is about 120 miles from here. I am thinking about taking it to Charley's or Arnold and Morgan. BOTH have experience with Stevie's guitars. I also spoke with Rene Martinez and have bought some of his products. I really wished that HE could look at it for me, although, I don't think he does that anymore. He is one B A D guitar player in his own right! Thanks for the Post! Sorry, I have been out of touch for a while.

Yes. A leveling and recrowning at the least -- a complete refretting at worst. But then you'd have a "brand new" guitar!!

I had thought about that, but I have not been able to find a shop that I would trust enough. One in Longview, Texas is listed as a Fender Shop, but when I got my American Deluxe and wanted it set up professionally, a kid that was about 18 did it. Now, he is a VERY good guitarist, but when I got it home, I had to totally re-intonate it.

I think that I may just have to go to Dallas and spend a day or drop it off and pick it back up another week.

Thanks for the post and suggestions!

What sort of buzz is it? Because if its fret buzz its usually the action but you say you have already made the action higher.
